I find that I am very impatient which means that I get frustrated and give up when things don't change quickly. When ever I implement anything in my life I expect things to change quickly or if I start a new project I get frustrated when I don't do it quickly. I get obsessed with it for a few days and then either give up or put it on the back burner. I then look back over time and from the time I started and quickly gave up to now and think, hey if I had just done an hour each day, or gone to the gym twice a week up to now I would have seen a slow but good improvement. All the changes I try to implement in my life and some of the projects that I start are long term, slow burn things. How can I discipline / convince myself to stick with it over time and therefore succeed. |

I understand exactly what you're saying. I've certainly found that it's easy to take on too much, expect big change quickly and then become frustrated when it doesn't happen. In fact, our tag line is "Little Changes, Bigger Life". I just blogged on that exact subject a few days ago, and here's the link; Little changes, bigger life…it works! BeMeBetter. I can relate, this is something that I've struggled with throughout my life. Some things can be very discouraging when you aren't seeing the results that you think you should. But as long as we continue down the right path then we will eventually see the results that we want, and it's that mental image that we have to hold onto in order to stay on that path. We need to make the right decisions every day and every day there will be slight improvement, sometimes so slight that we don't even see it. But after a certain amount of time we will eventually see a huge difference! There is a fantastic book called The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson which is all about this, and it's very inspiring. I have the audio version and I have the CD set in my car and I also have it on my ipod. I highly recommend it! |

Hi grl, I was and am still an impatient person but we can learn the skill to be patient. For me, to be impatient means to always think to the near future and always want the thing to be done quick and as you see quick results. But i understood something, that patience is a skill wa can learn, and i think it's also a skill that we learnt or not in our childhood. You can see The Marshmallow experiment (here is the link: YouTube - Kids Marshmallow Experiment). It's so funny because you can see that we are not equal but, the professor who conduct this experience said that it is possible for the parents to make that their children can learn patience in delaying things. For example, you want this toy, okay but you will have it in a week. I think we are children and we can learn this skill too even if it will be harder for us to make the change.
