Lightbulb Life is moving too fast!!!

Lately I had been feeling harassed, very tired mentally and all mixed up. This I realised was mainly due to the hectic life that I lead. The day rushes by at breakneck speed! By the time I realise I am in bed wornout and snoring.

The question I kept asking myself was, 'what is all the rush for?. where is it taking me, and what has it provided for me?' Not much, really.

That is when I decided to SLOW down the day, and enjoy all the little things that would normally escape me because I am always in so much of a hurry. So what I did for a start this morning was to review my schedule for the day downwards so I have less things to do.

Then on the one and half hour trip to work, I decided to go through the contacts in my phone book, and realised that there were a lot of friends I hadn't even spoken to in years! Well I called several of them within this one hour period... and I can tell you this had a very positive and relaxing effect on me. Talk about the little things...

I think if I could take everyday like this, life will be a bit more relaxing and enjoyable.

Just thought I would share this.

Good for you! That reminds me of something that I always joke about, living here in NYC. So many times, as I'm crossing the street in the city, a driver will come out of nowhere, honking his horn like crazy, and nearly running me over, just to stop at a red light that's like 6 feet away. What's the rush?

People who are always rushing and moving quickly are essentially running away from themselves. If they're always on the move, they won't have the time or energy to really deal with their lives and with what's important.

I'm glad that you've discovered how essential it is to slow down.

Hi Niikay, I seriously feel like the same way too everyday. It's like I can't fulfill my schedule and find that there's always 1 more thing to do. I tend to find myself often worrying about the future for no real reason.

What has helped me is being more of my thoughts. If one of my thoughts is focused on the future, I bring it back to the now and that slows things down.

Another thing I find really useful for me is going to the park and shooting free throws over and over again. I love doing this because the park scenery is very beautiful and the process of shooting free throws is sort of like meditating. Your not so much focused on the shot being made, but the process of making the shot (bending your knees, aiming the right direction, shooting the ball with an arch, following through, etc.).

I would recommend doing something similar to meditating where you focus your attention on one action for a period of time to help slow your day down. Good luck!

Spot on. And it does seem life works out better when you take the time to slow down. I just can't explain a logical reaon why but it seems to.

Thanks guys. At least your responses assure me that I'm not alone in feeling this way.
I did a little digging and came up with this very good material on SLOWING DOWN How To Slow Down And Enjoy Life More

You will find it most helpful.

Hi, for me it was exactly the same until i realized thanks to Eckhart Tolle's book The power Of Now, that I was linving in the near future but never in the present. I say near future because i was not always thinking about the real future like where i would be in a year or so, no, i was always thinking about what i have to do next. And this is exhausting to live that way. We miss all the little things we can enjoy and which are all around us, life!
