Hello! I'm doing a 30-day trial in time mastery and self-discipline, and I really curious about any insights you guys would like to share. The basic idea is: I intend to master my time expenditure, and spend my time in an intelligent and conscious way. I've devised a way of measuring that - I have a "timetable" of sort, and check off each hour a day if it was spent in a conscious manner. My goal is 20 conscious hours/day (sleep counts, as long it's not oversleeping), for 30 days in a row. Now you may ask what spending time consciously actually means, and I've decided it to mean: doing what feels right in the moment, as long it meets my basic guidelines for spending time. So spending time unconsciously means doing what feels wrong or doesn't meet my previously established guidelines (an example would be: staying up all night and surfing the web - as that badly messes with my productivity and sleeping patterns). I've been working on this trial for a bit over a month, and currently have finished five "runs" (lasting for <1, 4, 7, 5 and 7 days, respectively). What usually ends a run is something that initially feels like a good idea, then later turns out not to be (like the before-mentioned staying up all night). What I'm doing to combat this is to continuously refine my guidelines for spending time (for example, after the all-nighter incident I "patched" the guidelines with a new rule). Comments are welcome! Am I missing something obvious here? :) |
