Default Nicotine junkie

So... for the last 10 or so days I've been trying to quit smoking.
I have a cigarette, then throw away the pack... hours later I find myself in the grocery store to purchase a new pack of smokes.
I just can not quit !

Allen Carr's book really did nothing for me. I really REALLY want to quit.
Lost enough family members due to smoking and I don't want to end up that way myself.

Can anyone here who have quit tell me what I need to do?
Everything except the pill. Somewhere inside me I know can quit, but I lose the battle every time.

I can recommend keeping going with the Allen Carr method. I was successful with the audio book about a year ago and if you have only tried the book then perhaps this can be good for you too. There are actual clinics you can attend as well.

I found there is quite a lot to take in with the audio book and a few days after quitting I was forgetting some of the things I'd learned and realised for myself while listening to the book. I felt vulnerable to starting again in the first few weeks or so, so I ordered "The only way to stop smoking permanently" book (also Allen Carr) which seems to be a really long and dense extended variation on the original audio/book. It helped me because I used it to 'top up' a few times on the things I was forgetting that I now knew.

I didn't find the method quite as straightforward and miraculous as some of the hype and reviews make out. I felt I did have to make a little leap of faith to make the commitment to stop. And I guess one does have to pay close attention and listen to what is being said in order to grasp what he is saying. I also took a few notes and really held on to a few of the messages that made sense for me e.g. cigarettes don't relieve the cravings, they create them.

I tried to start smoking again at Christmas time but just couldn't get going on it. A few reads of the book I mentioned and I was good again.

Hope I'm not sounding like too much of a devotee but for me there's a bit of genius in the Allen Carr method. Best wishes with it.

Chantix? My best friends been nicotine free for 2 years thanks to it and a lot of willpower.

But you gotta have the will and desire to stop I take it because it didn't work for my mom but she can't take a pill regularly to save her life. Believe me she has 8-9 prescription ones she forgets all the time. Most people I know that went that route have had lasting results.

My brother quit 7-8 years ago with smoke away pills(which don't contain nicotine) toke them with lots of water to flush out the system. It came with a small vial of pills that did contain it if you just couldn't make it one day but he did good. He smoked quite a bit at home but never at work. Didn't want people to know he did it.

So I'll tell you my method which may discount all the previous. Don't start! No I tried it in high school. Heck probably sooner lighting up for my mom when she was driving but my main anti-nicotine and anti-drug was MUSIC. I was not about to spend that money on them. I guess I was not blinded and let my intuitive nature follow it out in my mind and after watching my friends spend all their spare cash on it I decided not to start. I quit drinking soda too for the same reason. I valued my money/music more than that. So focus on what you want to gain not what you are losing.
