Anyone have any practical advice on how to do this beyond buying a plane ticket and arriving at a foreign air port? I am curious on how do you arrange housing. Most sites I search are geared toward tourists. I actually want to move and live somewhere for 4-5 months in an apartment. Is it best to live in a hotel for a week and search for apartments when you arrive? What about the lack of a car? I am specifically interested in moving to Sau Palo Brazil. Budget: 4 grand a month. Also any blogs or resources you recommend reading? I am very unfamiliar with this, so thanks for you patience with my lack of knowledge in this area. I have to start somewhere! |

Depending on your home situation I'd suggest the following: Get a hotel (cheap one) for a week, so you have somewhere to arrive to. Investigate visas (Brazil requires via for Europeans and Americans, even for just tourist reasons) Read as much as you can before hand online and try to participate on forums for travelers (read the lonely planet for example) to see in which area you'd like to live. If you can find someone from that country to give you some more info on what you need to rent an apartment, that would be very helpful as well. Other then that... I'd really suggest to just buy the plane ticket and go, and let everything fall into place once you get there For 4.000 dollars a month you can keep on living in (cheaper) hotels without problems... Have fun! |

I suggest contacting with people on Couchsurfing in Sao Paulo, not necessarily to Couchsurf (although I'd recommend that too) but to ask some of those questions. People on the site who've lived there for some time will be quite open I'm sure to helping you out. I know that if a curious nice guy like you were to ask me such questions about moving to China (where I've lived now for quite some time) I'd be more than happy to share with you a lot of answers and advice. All the best in your move. |
