Default Help: goal formulation

I'm a musician. I want to be very successful at it, so I have certain financial goals I would like to reach, as well as artistic goals(writing great songs that I love, etc.) I'm a firm believer in the law of attraction, and I know that what I focus my mind on will eventually become reality.

However!

I recently read an article about JK Rowling where she stated that she only wrote to please herself, and never thought Harry Potter would be so successful.

The idea of focusing on writing songs that I love and forgetting about the financial goals is appealing to me, but how can I be sure that my financial goals will be met? How do I know I'm not going to be a starving artist my whole life?

Any help is appreciated.

There are no guarantees in life. Part of the fun of being an artist is taking the plunge, and seeing if you can make a living doing what you love.

Write songs that are from your heart and your experiences. Create music that you yourself would want to listen to.

If you are committed enough to your music, and persistent, and get enough exposure, you will develop a fanbase. Hopefully eventually it will be enough to support you.

There is nothing wrong with creating music that you feel has commercial potential; just make sure that it also has soul to it.

I know a lot of very talented musicians, and they all have non-musical day jobs (except for one who is a producer and co-owner of a recording studio). I knew a guy who went to Berklee who wound up playing at Holiday Inns. It is extremely difficult to make a living with music, so have a 'plan B'. Go to college. (I'm not trying to discourage you, just telling you how it is). Good luck.
