Lost most of my motivation to make something for my self Instead I find my self browsing the depths of digg.com, reading some of the forums I frequent, and just generally doing nothing. my attitude right now is laissez faire What steps should I take to make my self more busy, and improve my work ethic? I'm gonna be starting my first year of college soon, and I want to make something of my self

| Do you have specific goals to go towards? Reexamine them and see if you're still motivated towards them. Alternatively, set a bunch of new goals you're not sure you really want and just go after them. I'm finding a derth of goals I actually want, so I'm going after a bunch of other stuff to work on my self-discipline and determination. If you don't already, create a daily checklist of stuff you'd like to do. Like, set quotas for stuff, like do x for an hour or somin. and then keep track of it. Reread Pavlina's old blogs, before about june 05. I'm finding that I just need a little reinforcement to keep doing stuff, which I used to get from Pavlina but now he's talking about IM a lot more, which reinforces that but weakens my productivity. I actually just wrote about this on my blog: Insanity Studios Inc. Alternatively, you could block those websites for a certain period of time, either by removing any links (so you don't impulse-click them) or creating a new profile on your computer called Work ro whatever. You said you'll be startin college soon? Maybe start making some goals to improve your academics. Pick up some books on getting good grades, or something. Write five ways to imrpove every day for a month. At the end you'll have 150 ideas, some fo them have to be useful. There's a bunch of ideas, some low level solutions, so higher level. Good luck and I hope this helps!

I have found myself in a similar situation a few weeks ago. I too spent a lot of time reading Digg, watching videos on youtube and newground, etc. I didn't really care much about anything. Not school, not job, not anything. I can tell that you at least think that you should be doing something with your life. My question is if you actually want to do something with your life? You don't have to what exactly it is that you want to do, but you have to know that you want something. Is this desire strong enough to get you angry with your current life? Angry enough to do something about it? While I was sitting in the bath tub, I got that desire. I got angry with my life and I was angry enough to do something about it. I didn't know what I wanted to do, but I knew that I needed to do something. So I got out of the tub, picked up a cup of coffee, and stayed up all night writing about the things that mattered to me. I didn't know what I was going to write about, but as I wrote a pattern began to emerge. I ended up with a 30 page book. The essence of what I found was that my purpose in life is to provide security to those who need it and to raise up those who will take my place. It all begins with a simple desire and the rest will reveal itself.

Hi, Based on how you described your situation, I'd venture to say that you are lacking direction (or purpose) in your life. I believe this is the first thing you need to find. Once you have it, you will be able to set specific goals to get there i.e. you will know where you are going and why. Now, finding your purpose can be pretty hard to do. I had a very tough time finding mine and I only found it at age 34! (In case you wonder what it is ... in a nutshell ... I want to help other get what they want and succeed in life). Here are a few things to consider to find your purpose: - Those who succeed in life have found a way to make a living doing what they love most. It's their passion that drives them and money is just a result of them pursuing their passion. - Ask yourself ... What do you love so much doing, that you would be willing to do it for free or If you would win a huge amount of cash at the lottery, after the partying, the travel and the purchases ... how would you spend your days? - Whatever your purpose is, try to have it tied to helping others. Zig Ziglar said "You can have what you want in life, if you just help enough other people get what they want.". - Finally, here is a little exercise you can do to help find your purpose. (1) List your 2 most dominant qualities, (2) write how you like to express those qualities when you interact with other people, (3) describe in 1 sentence what your perfect world would look like and (4) combine (1), (2) and (3) in one statement. Good luck! René

I'm taking a different approach here. I say this is normal and fine for a person to go through, however if it lasts too long it might be a sign of depression.

You first need something to feel motivated about. What are some of your other interests? You may need to rediscover different activities which you personally find fulfilling and would like to accomplish every day. Try taking a small chunk of time and just listing things off the top of your head. It's a starting point, at least.
