| What IS 'personal development'? I have been reading some of these threads and they make it sound like certain types of development are PD and others are not. Then somebody said that PD was like philosophy. Well, isn't ANY pursuit of knowledge, including philosophy, 'PD'? Because pursuing knowledge develops you personally, it would qualify as PD, right? Or not right? What is PD?? And what isn't? |

| PErsonal development is a conscious choice you make to strip your soul bare and start from the ground up learning and laughing on the way.

| This quote has always stood as a beacon for me when I am feeling confused or have lost my way. "It is a bit embarrasing to have been concerned with the human problem all ones life and find at the end one has no more to offer by way of advice than "Try to be a little kinder." ~ Aldous Huxley ~ Being kind involves ongoing, epic battles with our ego's. Thats why genuinely kind and humble people are the true masters in my book. Sometimes being kind is the hardest thing possible. If I relfect back on a typical day and count in my personal interactions with people how many opportunities I had to be kind vs how many times I actually was...I have a long way to go. |

...this sounded a lot clearer in my head, before I started writing this post. ...it's personal development because I (or you) say so?

| Yep. Whatever develops you is PD. For example, I've a buncha books on mental math, some on philosophy, some on communication and a lot of others. I consider all of them PD because they improve some part of me and some part of my life. Such as my ability to do math problems, my ability to understand and react to the world and my ability to communicate and maintain relationships with others, respectively. I think everyone has their own definition of PD. For me it is one simple concept, "whatever you use to grow and improve".
