Default using your Ipod/Mp3 player for Self development

I bought my ipod to listen to music but it's turned into quite a handy tool for self improvement. Of course there is the obvious - audio books.....but I have also found i use it for:

a. relaxation/guided visualization mp3s - these can help you get sleep on a long plane flight - or just relax or use the time to visualize if you feel to ansy to read.

b. slide shows/vision boards - ipods have a slide show function so you can put on inspiring music and watch images float by.
b.1 you can also write out your goals and beliefs and change it into an image file.

c. contacts.alarms notes...pretty obvious.....but you can put in random alarms in the future with inspriational quotes or something so they come up after you've forgotten about them that's more of a calender function though.

d. i will also note with audio books if you get the audio and normal versions they can really help to deepen your learning and understanding since its coming through two mediums.

any others?

Just audio programs at the moment but if I had a video iPod I would put my vision statement on it and watch it all the time!

My audio books get about 90% of the play, and music the other 10

iPod is the best thing ever for multi tasking. Like you I use it for my recorded affirmations (my LifeVision), relaxing music and downloaded recorded seminars.

I just flew back from Nairobi Kenya (a 50 hour journey because of layovers and 3 long flights) this week and I would have DIED without my ipod. I listened to 3 recorded teleseminars that gave me incredible ideas. By the time I was done I had about 20 pages of notes on how I was going to build my business through teleseminars, ebooks and ezines.

(I'll just put in a small plug for the Ezine Queen.....besides being smart, all the guys think she's really beautiful....former Rebok model)

One of my students mentioned that she'd downloaded The Secret DVD as audio and listens to it daily. Apparently it is keeping her psyched and alive. When last I saw her (before she purchased The Secret) she was in the dumps, so apparently just listening to an inspirational DVD such as The Secret can do wonders (in other words, the video portion seems not to be as necessary as I once thought).

I just wiped my old 40GB MP3 player and plan to fill that with personal development audio. I've got my 80GB iPod for music and videos.

its probably a good enhance meant to the dvd - when you listen you're picking up things you're not hearing when you're watching..

I distinctly remember when i saw the second plane hit on sept 11 (live, and closer than I cared to be) I saw everthing so vividly but i can't recall a sound while my friend who was in his bathroom much further away than me could hear the sound and feel the impact wave.

Oh for sure, I would say my iPod is one of th e most instrumental tools in my personal development thus far. I have audio books and my Holosync program on it, and I use it every day. Actually, I just had to get my iPod battery replaced, and the week it was gone was pretty tough, mainly because I was chained to my computer and car for listening.

Like others said, I really use my iPod for PD. Audiobooks, right now. I remember searching for some ways to convert text into audio, either by installing a text-to-speech thingy on ze iPod, or finding a program that outputted mp3s of text. I have a lot of articles I want to read online, but I odn't wnat to spend that much time on hte computer, and printing htem all seem like a waste, especailly when most of them will be thrown away after being read.

Edit: One such program (appears to be the best) is Top Drawer Downloads - TextAloud Text-to-Speech Conversion Anyone have any experience with it?

Edit again: Apparently this'll work if you're on mac: Tucows Downloads - Text Reader 1.2.1 Freeware Software. I'll keep looking for windows.

macs already have a built in speech function, i think..with a bunch of voices - the problem , though they have gotten better - is that they really don't imitate the natural rythms of speech and its hard to really grasp what is being said - i think these type of programs are really only good for editing (catching errors)

Yea, the technology is in various states of usability. There are, however, some really good voices out there, like these one:

AT&T Natural Voices - Recorded Demos

Especially this one:

http://www.naturalvoices.att.com/sou...n_netscapebug=

There's some intonation in that voice. Cool!

You can also create mp3s of binaural beats if you're into that sort of thing.

If anyone's interested, I did end up getting TextAloud and two of the voices from Acapela Telecom (you have to get the 22k voices, they're just fantastic) and it sounds really, really good. Not mechanical at all, with good intonation.

I got a Heather voice and a Lucy (UK accent) voice.

I'm uploading an mp3 at the moment and it'll be up soon for anyone interested in checking out the voice/listening to an article about a study on meditators (it was posted in Health forum a little while ago).

Edit: The link is here:

Enjoy!

Thats cool, but I dont think I could listen to it for very long. While the voice itself isnt bad...the enunciation and flow of the speaking really isnt that good. I really forgot a lot of it after it was done. I think I would rather Photoread it.

Heh, I'm still having trouble breaking out my belief structure that says photoreading stuff like that is possible. I'm getting good success with books, but beyond that I'm still working at it.

Does anyone know of any good self help podcasts on ITunes? The only halfway decent one I have found is Kelly Howell's Theatre of the Mind.

Getting an Ipod has really helped my personal development, particularly with listening to guided meditation programs. It used to be that I always had difficulty trying to set up a regular meditation practice, because I would fall asleep or get distracted. Also, I had trouble staying focused to stretch long enough after I worked out, because I'd get bored. Now, after I work out I generally play a 20-minute long guided meditation MP3 while I stretch. Has helped my physical as well as mental fitness.

I listen to helpful Podcast in my car all the time, just recently I was listening to some of Steve's podcasts

I usually use a tape adapter to hook my Ipod up to my car tape deck. It works pretty well but it's not the best of quality. It gets the job done.

I wrote a post called "targeting affirmations" recently that explains how to use your mp3 player to break through to your subconscious mind and implant a new belief system. It works whether you believe in the affirmation or not. The link is below.

Having a MP3 player for my self-improvements are definitely great for me. I prefer to listen than to read. It's much easier and more convenient, isn't it guys? Of course, I loves to read on personal developments stuffs when I have the time, but when I am out travelling, nothing beats audio. Geez.

But what kinds of audio topics do you all prefer to listen to? I prefer motivation stuffs. Getting motivated is the engine to keep me going.

How about you all?
