The one I liked best in 'The Secret' was the guy who found a picture of the house he'd just moved into on a vision board he'd created five years earlier (sorry, I've forgotten his name), probably because that's the kind of thing that often happens to me (though usually on a much smaller scale ). I was surprised to read that James Arthur Ray was considered an ugly duckling when he was younger, because he's not at all painful to look at now. As far as he's concerned, I was too busy enjoying the wrapping to evaluate the content (I know, and I'm ashamed. Truly ) Joe Vitale creeps me out - his smile only seems to sit on the bottom half of his face. It's hard to feel you'll benefit from someone who reminds you of a Mafia mobster because his face says 'This is how it is, and I hope you'll grow by me telling you', but his eyes say 'I'm making you an offer you CAN'T refuse!' Yet another judgement based by me on something superficial, maybe.

I've been into PD on and off, mostly half-heartedly, for the last seven years or so, only really getting serious last December. Anthony Robbins did manage to change my life in one major way, though probably not in the manner he intended. I bought two of his books after reading all the raves, then found them so phenomenally boring that I stuck them on eBay and became hooked on on-line selling, going on to open a couple of on-line shops too. I think there is probably a bit of truth in what Esther Hicks has to say (I don't believe in Abraham though) but the book I was reading of hers is still in my bedroom drawer part-read - it's SO repetitive.

About two weeks ago, I decided to try the books and CDs by British hypnotherapist and entertainer Paul McKenna after my teenage son listened to a CD that had him eating spinach the next day. If you knew my son, you'd realise that manifesting your dream house would be a small achievement next to the spinach miracle I'd love to get through much more of Paul McKenna's material, but haven't had the time - since starting to use it, not only have I become much more productive but have solved several of my long term niggles and problems, with ideas that just came out of nowhere. I've also had a few startling insights into the motives behind the behaviour of some of the people that are close to me, and my family relationships are improving enormously as a result. I've always thought of Paul McKenna as a bit 'stagey' but needless to say, I'll be sticking with him for a while

his book change your life in7 days is good too. I listened to his CDs i thought they were a good consolidation of everything out there. he has a free guided imagery 28 minute self hypnosis thingy which is pretty darn good. again nothing ground breaking but a good overall easy to follow 'program'

LOL thank goodness for Amazon, I still feel a little funny even standing in the library section or checking the books out.

Lol. Absolutely. I'm using the book 'Change Your Life In 7 Days' (although am expecting it to take a little longer ) which comes with a CD in the back cover, and the spinach miracle occurred after my son listened to the CD that accompanied my mum's copy of 'I Can Make You Thin'. I'm not keen on that title, but she's also reporting (and showing) very good results). I hope Paul McKenna is as effective for you as he's so far been for us

Edited to point out that I cross posted with dor, and thoroughly agree

Vanity article created over a year ago by Jamesray (talk · contributions) as his only activity (including redirects James Arthur Ray and James Ray). A corresponding article on Wikipedia was deleted last year. This includes the 6-CD audio program, a workbook, a book, and an extensive online course with audio and videos clips. It took me a few days to go through the whole thing. It also comes with a free teleseminar and some free tickets for one of his events.

I thought the first CD contained too much basic introductory material (like most programs I evaluate). But on the 2nd CD and beyond he began providing much meatier content that was well organized into distinct rules and principles, and he provided abundant stories and examples of how to apply them.

Most of the ideas weren't new to me, and I know the concepts work because I'm already applying them. I really liked the way he presented and packaged them though, especially the stories and examples he used to illustrate them and his enthusiastic voice. I especially liked the 6th CD where he provided a walkthrough of his typical day, explaining how he applies the ideas as part of his daily routine. That actually motivated me to make some changes to my own routine.

Overall I liked the program, and when I asked myself if this was going to benefit people above and beyond topics I've already written about here, I had to say, "Yes, I expect it will." The program isn't merely about the Law of Attraction -- it's more about how to align yourself with various laws, including the LoA, to create a successful and happy life all around. It reminded me of Tony Robbins' Personal Power II program, but with a bit more structure and better organization.

So it was a fairly easy decision for me to opt to recommend it here. I already mentioned it in my newsletter and will write about it in the blog in a few days. Plus you'll see the ads for this program running across the site.

The particular version of the course I reviewed can be found here:
Science of Success

It includes a free 30-day trial and has an introductory video from Jack Canfield. The free trial gives you immediate access to the online course. My favorite portion of the course was actually the audio program, and second after that would be the videos from the online course. Plain text just doesn't convey James' contagious enthusiasm like his voice does.

One of my litmus tests for a good program is whether I'm still thinking about it a week after going through it. Most programs are highly forgettable. This is one where I'm still thinking about the ideas and looking over the several pages of notes I took. Again, most of the ideas in this program aren't new, but James has a great way of presenting them in such a way that you'll actually be motivated to apply them rather than just moving straight on to the next program.
I read the ebook and enjoyed it. For $10 it's a steal.

I'm signed up to James's Thoughts Of Power daily email doodad which sends free daily inspirational quotes, and I find it's rather good - shame that it's set up to go out in the morning US time, so it's midmorning by the time I get them here - It's stuff I'd ideally like to wake up to.

Default Ray shall be omitted.

I appreciate the work of Steve, and I'm very thankful for his sharing of really good articles and podcasts. On the other hand, I'm very disappointed that he's so in favour of James Ray. That gives me a total different view of Steve, especially his judgement. I support his pragmatic approach to PD, but I would never support abuse of science, logic and language as Ray does. This way of thinking which supports illusions rather than clear thought continuously lets me shift away from this movement where I got into because of Steve Pavlina. I more and more get the impression that things become too esoteric for me here (LoA, intentian-manifestation,...).

But thanks Steve, anyway. We all have to stick to our own judgement.

This thread was very enjoyable to read through...

My question is this: are any of these people saying anything new?

LoA/I-M seems pretty simple. Once you've gotten the basic message, is there a good argument for spending lots o' money and then hours of time on these programs?

I guess that's a loaded question, but I wonder if someone can tell me in a nutshell what the difference is between James Arthur Ray and Joe Vitale and Bob Proctor and [toothy-grinned guy #4,668]...and how it differs from what Napoleon Hill and the Science of Mind and New Thought people have been saying all along?

Or is it just the same cheese in a different wrapper?

(Not that there's anything wrong with re-motivating yourself, I guess)
