Cool What is your understanding of creative expression?

I am on a journey of creative expression.. but I don't even know what it means to me in a nutshell!! What does it mean to you? Maybe a light bulb will flicker with your suggestions

I see it as using your talents to express yourself. My strongest creative talents are music and writing, so I use both to express myself in various ways - I record lots of songs and have a blog. I also have an interest in photography and being able to wrap all three of these interests together when I put out a new CD is my ultimate form of expressing my creativity.

Recently, I've been embarking on a musical project wherein I try to create music as spontaneously as I can. I have a rough sketch of what I'm going to do (a few basic elements & a vague idea of the genre) and then I record whatever comes to mind/sounds good.

The results of my efforts are here: Philistine on the Sidewalk - it's mostly chillout/downbeat electronic tunes with a fair amount of live instrumentation and guitar improvisation to alter the genre somewhat. I'm pretty happy with how things are coming out and I'm likely going to continue creating new songs for quite some time.

I hope that helps!

to me, creative expression is the result of our compulsion to create instead of destroy. to build up instead of tear down. it has a strong spiritual component too (i am not talking religion, spirituality is different), or at least it does for me... it's like i get closer to my most authentic divinity when i am creating something. or closer to the sacredness which is always part of our life experience. the universe is a product of the drive to create. creative expression is also harmonizing instead of dis-harmonizing - even the discordant and chaotic products of creative expression serve to make conscious that which would otherwise interfere with ever-increasing levels of harmony.

i used to write a lot of poetry, and i danced for fifteen years (mostly ballet). i enjoy sculpting and photography but don't really pursue those much. nowadays, i channel the drive to create into making jewelry (it's called "beading").

but even engineers and architects are creating, construction workers do it too. carpentry, woodworking, rebuilding a classic car, anything where you are making more than what was there is creative expression.
