Default Shorthand systems

I'm interested in learning shorthand, as I find it a lot faster to compose fiction on paper, and was wondering if anyone here and any familiarity with the range of different systems. I know Pitman is the most famous and the one a lot of people recommend, but I've found a number of free guides for different systems online via the Wikipeida article on shorthand.

Groote looks interesting, but I'm leaning towards Handywrite or Teeline. Anyone got any suggestions?

Default speedwriting

I recommend Speedwriting -- it's easy and fast to learn, and also easy to interpret when it's time to transcribe. I got up to 120 wpm in about a month of practice, and it is very handy in many situations!

Speedwriting - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It looks very interesting and doesn't look like a totally different language.

I looked into shorthand a little while ago for possibly taking notes. I was concerned with one thing, and that was if I would be able to read those notes as quickly as my regular notes, or would I have to transcribe those notes into more legible stuff. I realize that with practice, I can do anything, but I would like to hear about other people's experiences with reading short hand. For example, if someone can give an estimate, such as, "I'm upto 80% of my normal reading speed with shorthand" or whatever. Thanks!
