If anybody can beat this for a goal I will tip my hat to them! In case you'd rather not read a rather lengthy blog post, it's to give away 1,000,000 copies of the physical version of my book 'How To Be Richa nd Happy' to people that can benefit from it. Seriously, can you beat that? BTW, before somebody makes some comment about bragging, I'm being somewhat tongue-in-cheek. Any goal that stretches you is a worthwhile goal in my opinion. |

Hey Tim Awesome goal and I wish you all the best for achieving it. I know you mention Amazon etc. Have you considered looking at better world books. A similar concept to Amazon but structured along more humanitarian lines (at least according to the website copy) BetterWorldBooks.com: Buy Used Books to Fund Literacy Worldwide |

I would think that getting people to buy that many books would be a more inspired goal than giving out freebie copies. More likely to be read that way. Giving them out for free implies that you feel the content isn't worth paying for... or that you don't feel comfortable asking to be paid for it. It's not necessarily a strategy that will lead more people to read it and benefit from it than if you sold it effectively. |

I could take a shot :P but is a combination of goals for the same period good as well? or should it be one goal? This is one of my main goals for the year(3rd on my list, ATM): To create a volunteer-based program through which I'll teach learning skills and PD(through the backdoor, in a way) at schools and community centres here in Israel, and get it running in at least 3 schools and 2 community centres, each with at least 10 students, as well as get additional volunteers to help it grow, and turn it into an authorized program for civil service(which gives people who were discharged from the military prematurely the option of completing their service in a civil environment, and to receive the full legal benefits). Basically - this all is the first phase of a longer-term goal, of getting this program to a state where it is available in 50 schools, with some 20 volunteer guides, and can keep going without me within 3 years. (Plus... I'd have to get discharged prematurely from the military to even be able to start - otherwise I'll either not have the time, or be in jail...). Dunno if it is actually bigger than yours or not.... But since both are worthwhile, who cares Lee-Orr |

@ Gaz - Brilliant mate thanks a lot! I never knew of BetterWorldBooks so that is a great starting point. @ Steve - I agree to a point and I'm more than comfortable selling it which is what we have been doing at $47 a pop. As I said though we want to get to people that don't normally buy books and help them. I have no doubt many would go unread, but if a few thousand make a real impact I don't really care. The current sales model serves to maintain the status quo. Yeh for sure every now and then somebody will 'break out' but it's not the norm How many homeless or unemployed people ran out to buy your book do you suppose? Have you ever heard anybody say something like "The real turning point for me was when somebody GAVE me a copy of X book" I have heard that more times than I can count and a lot more than "The real turning point for me was when I BOUGHT a copy of X book" |

I remember how the Gideons came to my highschool to give each of us his own New Testament. The floors were filled with Bibles that day. You first need some sort of rapport with a person before they will accept a gift. Just thinking that they need it may not be enough to get them interested to actually read it. | |

No, I believe I think I have a bigger goal then you. My goal is to own an entire search network, and make up to $100,000 upwords second year the projected loss is at - $25,000 first year however second year should be the one that I need. I have been doing this project (coding, etc) for the last year and a half, and trust me. this is it for me, you'll know. |
