Thought I'd share this here as I couldn't find a topic that talked about it anywhere (I searched the threads for any mention of the author: Steve Siebold, but alas, nothing turned up, to my amazement and dissapointment considering this is a personal development site, so yeah, here it is The website is here. You can even read the first 5 chapters if you want or are interested. The secrets aren't necessarily 'secrets' in the sense that people intentionally keep from talking about it, but rather are a collection of beliefs that were found "after 20 years of interviewing, coaching and competing against world-class performers" by those world class performers (they'll explain what those are). In other words, I don't want complaining about wether they're the 'right' beliefs or not, they're the results of research. As the site says, the book isn't supposed to be simply read, it was written to be studied. Disclaimer: I am not affilated or even know this Siebold guy personally. However, because I found the results of his work fairly rewarding thus far, I thought this word of mouth type of advertising might help him in return (and you guys too, of course). I'm also adding a poll to see how many people here have actually heard of this book before now, and have read it, just for curiosity sake. |

I purchased and read the book. My results were a strengthened will and more accomplished goals. In my case I managed to finish two short university courses spite being a period of very low income and stress. He's also got a free blog: Mental Toughness Blog You could get an overall picture of his ideas. |

@ Swede: Thanks for pointing out the blog; it looks like content is somewhat sparse though... As for my personal results: can't think of anything specific off the top of my head, but I will say that brutal honesty, something emphasized quite a bit, is very effective in attaining a measurement of where you are and where you want to be and how you will get there. In other words, it's got me to think more about myself, a lot. Well, some of the tips in there have probably helped me in university life as well. I never said I applied all of the secrets, that would take a tremendous amount of effort that I, currently anyway, do not really wish to expend, although I may get there someday. That said, some of the beliefs, although I do not recall the specific ones, I remember not agreeing to them. I'll really have to just give it a reread sometime soon. EDIT: Also teaching me to be comfortable being uncomfortable, if that means anything to you. Hmm... I guess the book isn't so popular then, and maybe I just got lucky... In any case, the book isn't so long winded that you have to struggle to get through it, each chapter is only a few pages. In my opinion, it's worth at least a run through if you're interested. One of the main concepts is that top performers are willing to pay the price of success. Amateurs are not. This is brutal honesty. And it is true. Remember all those friends one had from school? All the thrifty industrious people have accomplished at least something of greater value. And those who never really wanted to work upon anything are where they don't want to be. They don't know how to get out of there either.
