Lightbulb Please Help To Find The Purpose

I understand what STEVE says about goals and goal setting, hard work and self discipline and other stuff ( and greatly agree to him too). I am ready to follow all that and know that i possess winning qualities. But my main problem is that I am not able to determine what is my main purpose in life is. I mean I am not able to set up the ultimate life goal for myself. Though I have taken up a few short term goals for myself ( like losing weight, getting more disciplined, making my self more socially active and successfully working on them) but there is no specific direction in my life. And what I am scared of is that if I don't "decide what to do with my life" then some one or something else will decide it for me. I tried every thing what STEVE suggested TO FIND THE ULTIMATE GOAL FOR MY SELF. All the smart people reading this Please help!

I consider myself as a car whose ignition is on but is not moving and all the fuel is wasted in simply standing.

Just make one up and wing it.

Really I know that's ridiculous to hear but focus on something with 100% love and compassion and see how many people you can help on a daily basis and see how it makes you feel.

If you think you could feel better and help more people, try something else!

Make your short-term purpose, finding your purpose. Then just go at it. Write, read, discuss, explore, philosophise. Think of your own paradigms to discover your purpose. Steves process didn't have an ounce of an affect on me - it was an internal process I discovered that allowed me to work it out.

Maybe it's a personal paradigm you need to discover?

Shaden is right. But Steve's processes have some effects. They helped you understand that your goal are determined by what you experience during your life.

I don't know my goal yet, but I know where it lies; it is in creative art.

I have 3 brothers and 2 sisters but among us I was the one that grabbed a pencil after a cartoon to draw characters, the same that knew new songs as they've just came out.

Something happened one night. I caught a movie in his end (so I don't know the title ): it was about somebody who was trying to play electric guitar and couldn't. The night before the film end, a guest rockstar (don't know him but judging by the "awe" in the face of the boy...) showed him how to play. It was simple, he played a series of notes and the boy repeated them. After 2 series the melody came in naturally. That same melody continued playing at the end casting, but it sounded better. I can't really express that burning feeling I felt that night when I saw all this creativity : total happiness, everything is possible, I'm immortal, etc....

I told you about my brother: that's on purpose. My little brother is always repairing all kind of broken up electronics. He brought electronic wristwatches home. Sometimes he repaired them, sometimes he didn't, but I identify that feeling when he say "I have repaired it". This feeling has something to do with his purpose in life.

ruchika, believe me, you know your purpose. Have you ever felt this intense happiness because of something? Well track that thing.

Purpose comes from that which you value and give meaning to, which comes from your context and how you view the world. However, the way we view the world is subjective, and it does not exist outside of your mind. It has been conditioned by TV and the media, by our parents, by education, by the books we've read and the movies we've watched, etc. Most of these are just jumbles of other people's opinions with no foundation on Truth. Therefore, to discover your true purpose (or at least get close to it ), I believe it is important to make your "window" as "clean" as possible before deciding or committing to doing something, based on what you "see".

Steve's exercises, introspection, seeing how your mind works, thinking about happiness and suffering, thinking about our motives for certain goals and about our desires and fears, meditation, spirituality -- these will all help you in your quest. In the meantime, go with what your heart tells you, do whatever makes you happy and joyful to be alive. Life is a great gift, so we should live it as best as we can

It is not so much about what you do, but about how and why you do it. I like Steve's post on this: http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/200...-self-be-true/

Post Can't Find Out What I Love

Thank u very much for the great advice. I also read the amazing speech by STEVE JOBS. Simply great! he says that one should what he loves to do. I greatly agree to that because, I have experienced that doing things that u don't truly love is very hard to do.;)

I consider it a bliss when man know what his true love is, but in my case GOD seems to play game.
I mean I know exactly what I hate to do but what my true love is I JUST don't KNOW!.

I am trying out all that i can do like reading , talking to people, meditating, thinking over, but the fog has not been removed yet (though I have discovered a lot of amazing things in this journey) The best part is that I know for certain that I want do a Business of my own, I am not moulded for doing a regular office job like a zombie.

BUT now I am in my late twenties, and have a baby to support, and my parents are constantly pushing me to join this or that course or job.

I cant wait for long.

Ruchika,

I can understand you. Yet the thing is searching for THE purpose is what is preventing you from finding it. Why not just dive in?

From personal experience, I think first choices are always the good ones. Whenever I decide something then give it up, I always tend to regret it later on.

And anyway, you can change any time. Don't forget you are not alone. Every near person contribute to your well being in this world, we just don't see it sometimes.

I wish you the best.

ps: I really like movies that come from your country: they are so artistic.

Find yourself, find your purpose. I think people often come at it from the other side, thinking if they find their purpose, they will have found their authentic self. Your purpose is an intention that is an expression of your authentic self; if you haven't found the infinite, timeless you that wants expression, any deeper sense of purpose will elude you.

So start somewhere. It's easy to get stuck in analysis paralysis; part of the problem is there are so many attractive options in the world that it's hard to find just one that rises above the rest. So pick something and go with it -- it's not a lifelong commitment. Just pick something to be passionate about now and see where it leads.

Default A book with exercises

I have just stumbled upon a book called "Is Your Genius at Work?" by Dick Richards, and it has lots of exercises that might be helpful...at least I'm hoping!

Hi,

I have been introduced to Personal Development 1 year ago. At that time, I had no purpose, no dream, no long term goals. Here is what I learned since then.

In order to get what you want in life, you have to find a way to help others. Zig Ziglar said "you can have anything you want in life, if you just help enough other people get what they want".

Your purpose must also be tied to your values and passions i.e. what you love doing. Ask yourself "If you would win a huge amount of cash at the lottery, after the year of traveling, the spending and the partying, how would you spend your days?" or "What do you love so much doing that you would be willing to do it for free?".

You will know for sure you have found what you want when that "thing" you want is so important to you that you are willing to do anything to get it. It is so vital that it's like the air you breed. When you find this, you will have no problem to remain motivated and on track to get it.

Finally, in one of the books I read, they suggested the following exercise to find your purpose: (1) Write down your 2 best qualities, (2) Write how you like to express these qualities when you interact with others, (3) In 1 written statement, describe the perfect world and (4) Combine (1), (2) and (3) in 1 statement ... this is your life purpose.

Good luck!
René
