As you know one day you will die. Death is inevitable, you cannot escape it. Now you're still young, you have time and energy to choose how you want to live out the rest of your life. The way I see it you have two choices. The first one is to live in ignorance and false hope just wondering through life aimlessly, never achieving much and one day lying on your death bed filled with regret of not pushing yourself and taking risks or you can push yourself towards your goals, be courageous, energetic, happy, self disciplined and motivated to work on yourself and your goals. You know that is what you really want, to be successful, happy and feel proud of what you have achieved in your life. Also for others to look to you with pride. So the question is how? How are you going to go about creating the life you desire? Well it all begins with what you want. What is it that your really want in life? What are your goals, aspirations, and ambitions. Now write them down. It does't matter whether you feel that you can achieve them or not. If you are committed you will succeed. Yes there will some hurdles in your path and you will fail but as long as you keep trying in different ways you will succeed. As the two sayings go "surely the greatest risk of all is to not take risks" and "continuous effort - not strength or intelligence is the key to unlocking our potential." When you have decided what you want, break them down into smaller bite sized goals and then down into what it is that you must do daily that will bring you closer to your goals. Order your goals by priority and focus your attention first and foremost on your most important goals. Success is very much dependent on the day to day choices you make that affect how that day will end up. For example if you had a choice between working on one of your goals vs watching television all day you know that logically television is no where near as good as working on your goals but it is difficult to realise that in "the moment of choice". There are things you can do about this. The first one is to increase your self awareness by meditating. This will help you become conscious of these small decisions you make. The second one is self discipline, you know which of the two choices is the correct one, now you have to have the self discipline to do the one that is important to you. Then there is motivation, by keeping your current goal on a piece of paper in your pocket at any time you need to make a choice read the goal. This will help realign your focus towards your goal and dismiss any of the other choices. The final tool in your arsenal is to not give yourself the choice. Choice is a privilege that you can grant or deny yourself. By working out before hand any general choices you make throughout the day you negate any possibility of making the wrong choice because you have had more time to think it through earlier and have effectively already chosen what your going to do. Now that you know what you want and how to choose in the moment, you have to consider how you'll stick at it until it's completed. There are lots of things you can do to help you stay focused and working on your goals. Don't break the chain is an excellent one, write down what you have to do to be able to put an X on your calender then every day you do it put an X on that day creating a chain. Now just keep keep the chain going. The next one is to at first make it a 30 day challenge. Just do it for 30 days effectively making it a habit and if ever you feel like giving in just say come on one more day, anything to keep you going. Next reward yourself with things you want and are helpful towards your goals e.g a book that has useful information in it and reward yourself by celebrating the little wins. Feel that feeling of passion and desire as you realise your closer to your goal. Creating your dream life won't be easy but then nothing worth having comes easy. It will take hard work, persistence, effort, courage, and dedication but it is all so worth it. To live out your dream, to shape your life to how you want it. You must understand that you area always in control of your future and how it ends up, you are the result of your past thoughts and actions which conversely means that if you consciously choose your thoughts and actions you will have control over your future and what it will become. You must act on your thoughts and dreams. Dreaming is pointless if you don't work on making it a reality because it would be sad and pathetic to still be dreaming of a great life when your real one is coming to and end. You are the driver, your life is the car. Where do you want to go? What do you think? Last edited by hawkal; 12-01-2009 at 11:59 AM. |

Honestly- you're asking what I think? Ok. It's the same old motivational stuff just said by you instead of someone else. I'm not trying to be nasty but this sort of article has no real value. Sometimes the gap between where people are and where they want to be is so vast that it takes a more radical approach to deal with the solution. Now I agree that beliefs and outlooks of the individual are key points in an individual changing- BUT- there are too many people, and I see them all the time, who are stuck. They've tried everything and they don't know where to go to improve things. These people are intelligent, educated, and are familiar with the benefits of meditation, writing thoughts down, being motivated etc. But motivational articles alone are not enough. It's like telling someone that all they need to do to get from a to b is build a car, or a spaceship. It sounds so simple- "just build the spaceship, come on focus, really want it- come on do something, go and buy some materials for it". We run the risk with articles and posts like this of not really offering the support we should. I mean you no offense but we have to stop just churning out the same old stuff and look at what works. What really works. Nuff said. |

Thank you very much for your honesty and I take no offense. I agree it is just the same old generic self help article regurgitated by me but that doesn't bother me because I've no intention of writing self help articles. I actually written the article for myself back in February just as a way to express myself. The reason for posting it was just to see the feedback of others and how I would react to the criticism. And as a result of the additional support and accountability requirement, I tend to achieve quicker and greater breakthroughs. | |

Firstly as an artical for yourself, then yes, if it helps- great... Shokoya is right. The one to one help is the key. You have to distinguish between generic advice which is written in articles and specific advice. Generic advice usually is a broad painting which gives everyone some general guidance but largely still leaves people stuck. Steve obviously writes many generic articles. The problem for many is that having read them, they don't know what to do next. When you get specific help, that is better for actually getting you off your chair and taking action. It's someone almost pulling you through the changes and showing you, or telling you, exactly what to do. It's advice that only applies to you and is precise That said, some generic articles are really good too and I've been really impressed with Erins latest one. It's refreshing and got me thinking. |
