Say you have an strange goal. Is it better to take the most direct route to the goal or would it be better to do other things to improve your chances of success? For example, say you wanted to meet a public figure on a social basis. Do you take the direct route and keep trying different direct ways to get in touch or do you work on improving your self and working on stuff in their field to gain attention and potentially putting you on their radar making a social meeting easier? e.g If Steve wanted to socialise with Tony Robbins it would be easier for him as opposed to someone who hasn't contributed to the personal development field. My actual goal is beyond use in this topic because it is a bit strange but the thing I like about it is that taking an indirect route would also fulfill most of other things I would like to achieve because of the expectations I believe are required to be successful in attaining my main goal. I guess the problem is that we're not sure what the direct route is. If I wanted to be a billionaire, what is the direct route? How can I even define it? If I wanted to hang out with Britney Spears, what is the direct route? Maybe the quickest way is for me to become famous enough and meet her on a movie set. Or maybe I can win a charity auction where a dinner with her is the prize. Or maybe I can become a druggie and hang out with her next time she's in rehab... eek, I hope we both stay clean! I'm not sure if that answers your question or not. I think the "best route" is just to do the best we can. |

Well direct to me would be actions that directly affect you success in getting your goal, like if say you wanted to meet Britney spears you would just call up her agent or a point of contact and some how try to arrange a meeting. By direct I mean the shortest, quickest most direct route to your goal. Kind of like a "nothing else matters" attitude. |

It could be worth a shot. Then when she meets me and talks about how I'm so great and she wishes she had met me earlier, I could say, "Well I tried to contact you but Mr. Agent stood in the way!" | |

I like to try multiple promising avenues at once in parallel, in hopes that one will work out. If a path contributes to other goals too, it gets priority. I think that for strange or hard-to-achieve goals, you have no way of knowing what will be successful and so the more things you try, the better.
