First of all nothing is unrealistic. If you can think it you can do it! I would suggest writing down everything you want to achieve in a goal-setting format. That will give you some place to start, and then you can begin to break down those goals into smaller actionable chunks. That might give you something to do... Also, identify your strengths and weaknesses. A great place to start doing something is working on yourself. What are your talents? In what activities do you enjoy participating? What sort of things do you do to have fun? Make sure you surround yourself with either the people or the activities that put a smile on your face. This is pretty much a non-specific shotgun-blast response to your post. Hope it helps... |

Just pick something small and complete it. Like: organizing your shoe closet or finishing and mailing a letter to your mom. Completions give you energy, and can help you ramp up into an upward spiral of confidence and vitality.

My eyes are starry with grandeur, everything I want to do is unrealistic, and everyone thinks I'm crazy...but I'm gradually making progress, and I'm getting by just fine. You can decide to try and possibly succeed, or you can decide to do nothing and inevitably fail. |

Tell us one of those things and we can help you pick it apart and figure out what to do. Years ago, I used to sit with a friend and I would say "I want to do blah blah- but it's a 2 year commitment". She would say "I want to do blah blah but its a 2 year commitment'. 2 years later - I had done blah blah and she was still saying'I want to do blah blah but ...'. What's the WORST that can happen - you try it, get part way and don't finish - either because it's the wrong thing for you, it really is too difficult for you, or your goals/priorities change. Whatever, you will have learnt SOMETHING just going for it. |

I'm just starting to build a business that is so huge in my vision that even I am only starting to believe in it. I'm way sure I won't achieve everything I envision, but the business will sooner or later, whether I#m still around or not. This is my greatest inspiration, although everybody thinks I'm crazy! Well, they're right ;-) ultimate, shoot for the moon. It's worth it even if you miss several times. Been there, done that ;-) | |

For me, the best way to approach this is stepping stones. I look at the big far away goal and ask myself what things need to happen to get there, and brainstorm a big list of things. Then I put them in order. And then I look at the first step, which is usually easy to conceive of, and do that. And then the next. I also spend a lot of time visualizing the outcome, the final big goal... day dreaming about it in as much full technicolor detail as possible. Because dreaming, well, that is easy. How does it feel to be in that dream, how do you look, who is with you, what happens day to day in nitty gritty detail. But back to reality, I just keep hopping on those stepping stones, only looking as far ahead as the next one, and checking them off the list. All of a sudden, the big dream is just around the corner, and then its here and you'll be full of joy just like you pictured. This is how I went to college the first time. It seemed impossible, I had no money, no family support, was living on fumes by myself and didn't even know what I wanted to study. I just knew I wanted a degree like everyone else had and like every job posting asked for. I put it off for a few years because I didn't know where to start. But then I applied the above strategy, after taking a single day class in goal setting, and suddenly it wasn't so scary - the first thing I had to do was call a college and make an appointment. They helped me fine-tune my list of stepping stones and yup, it took me FIVE YEARS of night school while working full time and it did cost me $10,000 in student loans but graduating felt just about exactly like I'd imagined it would. I was over the moon. |
