Hi, I am considering creating a software offering that will allow people to create and review their goals. Goal setting is something I firmly believe in but hate using pen and paper to track and review. I was wondering if people here would be interested in such an offering and if so what they would like to see in this level. At a very basic level the software will allow you to: 1. Create goals 2. Outline the tasks needed to create the goals. 3. Allow the user to put deadlines against these tasks and have some sort of not intrusive notification. 4. A way to state that you have achieved your tasks and get the reaction with your brain. 5. A way to readjust the goals as your goals mature. What other things do people think would be good to have in there? Cheers Paul |

If you think of something that can help people creating Correct goals by eliminating 99% of the wrong thoughts .. This might help.. As i think setting right goals are more important than achieving any goals. If you make software where somebody used for years and finally find out its not worth doing .. instead if you can help them finding out the right goals .. that will produce more value.. What do you think ? Quote:

Hi, I have been thinking that you could select from the premise of you first choose your goal type: Financial, Career, Personal, Other The software could, if I understand your point correctly, ask questions that lead you down different paths dependant on your answers and hopefully lead to better defined goals. Yes sure .. It will help you clarify your life purpose .. using lot of time and space perspective.. clarifing your values.. and then provide you with the options for the different directions .. and sort of that.. Once that is done you can provide them with goal achievment tools and strategy .. But i believe instead of giving people fix perspective provide them with the important info for clarifying what matters most to them .. Quote:

I don't really think that goal setting is a software problem.

It’s like describing World War One as “a serious diplomatic concern.” Bruce Sterling about the financial crisis. |

What if someone does not know what his/her goals are? How would a software help? Goals may be very broad or narrow.

I think it is an interesting point to inspire people to write better goals. My idea was to have an online store where you can organise and track your goals. I see it as a way of stating the goal and plotting a course from a to b with task points that have deadlines set against them. |

I'm sure a free alternative would be of great value to the self-development community. Are you planning to integrate a calendar function? Could the software also be used as a planner? Being able to set the software as a "dynamic desktop", akin to the large-size calendars used by many offices, would be fantastic. No need to open the program or go online - there it is. Automated reminders, which can be set to varying times based on user definition. For example, if I want to get six articles finished this month, and I plan to write two each week, I'd like to be able to set up reminders on every Wednesday to write/finish the article (perhaps with a checkbox linked to the goal itself: "Have you finished this? yes/no", and then it records the result on the goal itself), and every Saturday to submit them to sites. Clickable links within the program. If I type in an email address, a phone number, a Web address, the program can open the appropriate program in a separate window. I agree with the previous poster, who said goal-setting isn't a software problem. It's not. But having helpful software can't hurt the process, can it? Perhaps an ability within the program to detect numbers and ask how to handle them. For example, I set the goal "Write 6 [or six] articles" for the month of November. Then, a pop-up box comes up: "I noticed this goal includes a number of smaller goals. Would you like to schedule them separately, or schedule this as one large goal for the total?" Wouldn't advice from the program be vague? Perhaps indexing free articles from self-development websites such as this one, and using keywords to link the two together, could help. For example, "You've posted three new Financial goals this month. Here's a list of articles from StevePavlina.com related to these keywords you have used: work, financial, finances, job, productivity." |
