Default 30 Days Of Vegetarianism

Hi everybody,

Starting on the 5th of November my wife and I are set to launch our 30 days of vegetarianism trial. I know very little about vegetarianism now and plan to grow and learn throughout those 30 days.

Having finished up our first trial of 6AM starts followed by 5 runs weekly I was inspired to run my first marathon in January. So, who knows what this new trial will inspire!

I'm really curious if I will become bored with the food choices available within those 30 days. I'm also looking forward to see if I'll have any marked changes in energy and/or state of mind and soul.

Heres to finding out! Please wish me the best

Ouyang

Don't worry, there are plenty of food choices. Even without fish. You might even discover new foods you wouldn't have otherwise eaten.

Best of luck with the challenge. Very inspiring!

My friends Brad and Claire have been vegan for over 10 years.

They have a cool website with some great vegan cooking ideas.

First off congrats on your decision to try out vegetarianism! For me it has been a very rewarding and fulfilling life decision for about 8 years now.

Early on in my vegetarian days a friend once put it to me this way and I later discovered he was completely right: being vegetarian does not limit your food choices, but rather expands them! This may seem paradoxical, but if you think about how many people who eat meat tend to center their dishes on the same proteins (red meat, poultry, chicken, fish) and more-or-less treat vegetables as an afterthought, then you can imagine the possibilities that will open up after ditching meat. Suddenly those vegetables you never considered in the grocery isle will start ending up in your cart and you will start learning A LOT about cooking.

I've never gotten bored! Even after 8 years I still don't feel like I've approached any limit for meal variety. I am constantly searching the net for new recipes and trying them out.

Starting out will be challenging, and at first you may feel your choices are limited. This will pass as you gain experience preparing dishes based around vegetables and fruits.

If I were to make a suggestion it would be research research research! The web is amazing for seeking out recipes and how-tos.

Cheers! I'd be curious to see how you progress!

Daniel

Good luck. But I tried vegetarianism for 6 months, and while I don't eat a ton of meat anyways, I ended up losing 2kg (and I was already underweight at 56kg previously) and felt really un-energetic. Will probably try it again one day though, perhaps when I've put a bit of weight on.

I will do no meat for this trial period. My brother is a "pesco" vegetarian so he eats fish but I figured where I live I'm not sure where the fish comes so I can better do without. Part of my reasoning for doing this trial is to cut out my intake of hormones and chemicals.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks so much for the in depth reply. That is a very interesting comment that it would indeed expand my food choices. There are a lot of really neat vegetables we have here in China that just aren't available (without some really good searching) back in North America. One worry I have is that my protein intake will not be sufficient as I am active in running and lifting weights. Are you a health conscious vegetarian?
