Default Well-Rounded college education?

Well, I am just out of the military. I am now going to college and I am deciding to major in communications. I want to minor in Mathematics and Technical communications.

The reason I want to do this is for a well rounded education. I want to learn some math (calc1-3, linear algebra, some statistics.) I want to learn how to Technically write (Technical Communications) and communicate to people with my communications major. I don't know if I am going the right route. I really just want to learn that is about it. Possibly grad. school.

What do you guys think? I may not be looking at this practically but I just want a well-rounded education. I don't expect to make macho bucks right away. Even $30,000 would be enough for me. I have college financially settled.

Is there a better way for me to approach this?

This sounds like a well thought out and workable plan to me. Good luck and much happiness to you! May your dreams come true.

Check out the requirements for whatever major you choose. Chancer are (if your college is like the one I went to) it will require something like 30 credits, which is what you take in roughly a year. If that's the case, you can take one or two classes relevant to your major each semester and then take a wide variety of other classes that interest you, even if they are not related to your major at all. That, in my opinion, is a strategy for a truly well-rounded education, and it basically lets you decide what you want to learn. It also works with any major other than the professional degrees like engineering, architecture, etc.

Good luck!
