When there is an emotional/mental problem, I feel an immediate need to fix it. I constantly analyze my feelings/thoughts and go back to my past. Some psychologists advocate this and others do not. Some people on here say do not analyze and some do. Is there not a balance for both? If I feel depressed or insecure, should I ignore it or analyze it? How do you know which method to use? |

I think it is okay to analyze it, but not to analyze it where it becomes a point of obsession. When it comes to a point of obsession (which you'll know), then it's best to step back from it and view problem from the whole or a totally different perspective (usually doing this, the problem becomes insignificant). You may also find it relieving if you let a significant of time pass and revisit the problem later; more than likely you will find a solution to the mental or emotional problem.

Ignoring it usually backfires for me. If I don't want to analyze a situation, I at least formally accept it (just telling myself "I accept this problem/situation/whatever the way it is."). I think that really helps release some of the tension. |

Analyzing is fine if you use that knowledge to create change and heal. If however you analyse the idea to death and use that analysing as an excuse not to change, it's not really going to serve you. e.g. "I can't ask that person out / start a business / stand up to my in-laws / boss / partner because I was sent to public school / private school / homeschooled and was a youngest / oldest / middle / only child and never got enough / too much / the right attention from my mother. * *delete as appropriate! |

on a more serious note - there are thoughts behind those feelings of depression and insecurities should you analyze them ? hmm sure weed out the old thoughts though first - the ones tied to your past and then see if your depression is just a way of yourself saying - DEEP REST needed analyzing too much will make you act like this guy YouTube - Oh Gosh! |
