It may sound silly and uninspired, but the reason why I mostly fail to take action is that I easily get bored and most tasks simply do not create enough suspence to arouse my interest. I admit that I am an adrenaline junkie-I like to do things that seem to be insurmountable. In order to regain my momentum, things have to be thrilling, goals and intentions have to be beyond mediocrity-you know what I mean? The problem is that the normal course of life seems to be completly different. To be honest school doesn´t really fall into that category, homework and exams are not enthralling at all. Getting up,going to school, eating lunch, doing homework+learning, showering, going to bed...there´s nothing exciting about a daily routine like that... How can I benefit from my addiction and make my everyday life, especially my time at school, more exciting? |

Start sh&t! I feel the same way, so I've started lots of things: I now co-run a local writers' group with 40 members (we meet once a month and have speakers), run a local parents' group with 25 members (we meet twice a month), and run an animal welfare organization with more than 1,000 volunteers (creativePAW: Creative Professionals for Animal Welfare). What are your interests and passions? Can you start a group relating to any of them? Meetup.com lets you organize a group for something like $13 per month, and you can get free business cards for your group at Vistaprint.com. (I got some for the parents' group to give out to parents with babies I see when I'm out.) You can start a book group, a gaming group, a group for Buddhist students -- whatever you want. That way you'll be doing what you love, sharing your passion with others, meeting new people, and undertaking an exciting challenge. FW |

Read "Flow", by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. He gives examples of how even working in a factory a worker can avoid boredom by seeking to master their tasks. | |
