Default Any interestsing self-management/time management techniques

...apart from the "classical" ones such as Stephen R Covey and such.

Anything more innovative, new, creative, inspirational to add to our self-help bookshelves? :P

What I like to do every morning is make a list of the three most important things I want to accomplish that day, and then I keep that list in my mind throughout the day.

What makes this innovative and new is that I write the list every morning while naked, blindfolded and hanging upside down. Try it!

For many people, habitual Internet surfing reduces their productivity. Here's what I did this week:

* Had my husband change my password to a particularly time-sucking forum (not this one).

* Used a free extension on Firefox called SiteBlock to block a few other sites that were distractions.

* Downloaded the free software Freedom for Mac. This software disables your networking for the amount of time you choose, from 10 minutes to 8 hours. The only way to go online during that time is to reboot your computer. This works for me when I'm working on an article that I've already finished the (online) research for.

For the first couple of days my fingers kept twitching towards the browser tabs where I would usually keep my favorite time-wasting websites open. But the feeling soon passed, and now when I have a few free minutes I check out my new GTD software to see what I can cross off my list instead.

I hope these tips are helpful!

Got a task you just keep putting off? Set a timer for 5 minutes and work on that task for just 5 minutes. Two things might happen. A) You work on the task for 5 minutes then stop - but atleast you've made a start! B) You work on the task for 5 minutes and get so into it that you keep going until you've finished

Case in point - I have had 3 small repair jobs nagging in my brain for weeks. Last night I thought - enough!!!! and set to.... it took LESS than 5 minutes to do all 3 of them but the head-space time they were taking up was enormous!

Have you read any of David Allen's books, Getting things done or making it all work?
