Default Setting Goals

I recently wrote a post and called it rather modestly The Ultimate Goal Setting Post and it's a long sucker at over 4,000 words (probably not by Steve's standards though).

I would love any take on what people think may be missing because I want to make it dynamic and add material so it stays relevant and lives up to its name.

Any feedback including criticism very welcome.

Great post Tim. I like very much the addition of the ER to SMART - is it your own idea?

Yeh it is, but in some respects the 'E' part is taken from Well Formed Outcomes in NLP that look at ecology very much.

The 'Reward' bit was simply feedback when I got stuck with clients. It was nearly always because they didn't know what the deeper meaning was in chasing goals. Money and material objects are fine, but there has to be more than that imho.

Thanks for the feedback.

Well... i really liked your post, but, to be honest, your methods were already "invented" long ago.

The key to a better life, is really writing all the things down, but the person has first to get rid of all distractions. Motivation is a real bi*ch, so there is no point of writing something down, or setting sub-goals until you take the step and burn (literally) all your distractions.

Andyee - don't disagree mate, there's nothing knew.

The 7 Habits is stuff from hundreds of years prior. The Monk That Sold His Ferrari is other peoples material regurgitated and Tony Robbins simply repackaged work by Bandler and Grinder that was learned from Erickson, Satir and Perlz. Wayne Dyer talks about Rumi and Lao Tzu and his book 'You'll see it when you believe it' was from an old Chinese proverb. Chopra and Tolle similarly say things that have been around centuries as does Thich Nhat Hanh. That Buddha knew a thing or two it seems

There's very little new in self-development, the key is the delivery and exposing new people to age-old wisdom.

Motivation comes from knowing your core values, knowing what the 'R' in reward is for you as an individual. If you really know that you'll be motivated in my experience.
