Default You've got to find what you love - A speech by Steve Jobs

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone
else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the
results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others'
opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important,
have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They
somehow already know what you truly want to become.
Everything else is secondary. [...] Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish"
- Steve Jobs

i don't know if anyone has read this speech by Steve Jobs. If you haven't 'You've got to find what you love,' Jobs says read on

I agree, the title is wrong.

But WOW, what a great speech. Thanks, I emailed it to friends and saved it for myself.

The title is taken from the bottom of the speech. It's a lot more interesting than "do the thing you love" = bland

Alright?

If you really wanted people to pay attention to the thread, you should have titled it "Having Sex & Eating Chocolate & Pizza Will Make You Rich".

Once again - seriously - fantastic find. I loved reading it.

It really flushes out the "follow your bliss" statement from The Secret.

Great speech.

That's definitely one of the best speeches I've read in a long time. Very inspirational. I would strongly recommend it to everyone.

Arrow Moderator note:

Trekr5,

It is a requirement of the Forum Rules to use meaningful thread titles:

Quote:
Use meaningful thread titles - Meaningful, descriptive titles greatly improve forum usability. Ambiguous, cutesy, or clever titles diminish forum usability. Many members only have time to selectively read a small percentage of posts, so please respect their time. If you want to be clever or cute, feel free to do so in your post content, but keep your titles clear and direct.
Your original title was somewhat misleading and not very informative. As such, I've edited it to more accurately describe the content of your post. I also managed to include your original title by including it as a quote within your post. As stated in the Forum Rules, it's fine to be "clever", "cute", or interesting, just so long as you do so in your actual post content, not in your thread title. Please keep this information in mind when making future threads.

All other members,

If you feel another member is violating the Forum Rules, I ask you to please contact the forum moderator(s) either directly by sending one (or more) of them a private message (PM) or by reporting the post in question (by clicking on the triangular shape with an exclamation mark within it in the top right hand corner of the post frame). This is the most efficient way to help keep the quality of these forums high for everyone. Thanks.

Default today is the last day of the rest of my life...

Wow! What a great speech! Thanks for sharing that. It immediately brought to mind a very important idea in my life and that is the idea that “today is the last day of the rest of my life”.

So often people proclaim that ‘today is the first day of your life’, but if it is you fail to live it fully and you so often fail to grasp the magnificence of now and what you can do in a second. If today is the first day of the rest of your life then you spend it planning on what you will still do…as opposed to doing it. And it’s all about doing it and living life fully in every moment. It kind of brings things back into perspective when you face the fact that we will all face a last day at some point – we just don’t know when it will be. Like Steve Jobs said in the speech: ‘Death is very likely the single best invention of Life”

Default Impetus to live

Hi trekr5.

Thanks for drawing attention to this poignant speech. I had read it before, and find it as compelling as ever.

For me, what stands out is Steve Job's view on death.
His near-fatal experience with cancer reminds us all that we don't have to wait until we get such a wake-up call in order begin living life to the fullest.
Some of us believe in life after death, yet what prevents you from living now?

I like this quote by James Dean: "Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today.”
Food for thought...

I really enjoyed that speech. Great, great man. Such a dominant force in the "go after your dreams" mantra.

I don't think life after death would mean that we shouldn't make big things in this world. Afterall, our earthly experience ends, but if we believe that we don't cease to exist altogether when we die, we probably wouldn't be so scared of death and would tackle bigger things. At least that's how I see it.

Hi Erki.
I agree that if you believe in life after death, this wouldn't undermine seeking to live the most fulfilling life you can. I was asking the question in my post because I don't think anyone should prevent themselves from living their most rewarding life now based on fears or "what ifs."

Guys, I am sure that speech was televised and is on YouTube. Certainly, it was on there a week or two ago. Go check it out - it's even better hearing the words coming out of Job's mouth. Truly inspirational speech, especially when he talks about his battle with cancer.
