Here's my situation, I'm a 16 year old who doesn't go out at all. It's the middle of summer, and I haven't made a group of friends while school was still going to hang out with in the summer. So, I'm basically just stuck at home. Which would be ok, since I used to spend all my summer playing online games. But now they just don't interest me anymore. I also hate reading. >_> And I don't have a license yet, so I can't really get out of the house if I wanted to. So, all I have is the internet, several empty sketchbooks, and a lot of art materials. I would draw, but I can't really spend more than an hour a day drawing. Right now, I'm just spending most of my time playing this online game that I'm barley interested in, but just staying in because of the nostalgia. That, and lurking around several forums, and reading steve's blog whenever I feel like it. ^^ Can you people help me come up with a list of ideas of things I could be spending my time doing? It's not like I have many interests, so I can't really come up with anything. |

I have not experienced the emotion of boredom in many years, but I do remember what it feels like. I have a few quick ideas for you! 1. Join some kind of club or league. Basketball, bowling, tennis, whatever suits you. I currently play soccer on most Saturdays. Great exercise, lots of fun. 2. Take classes at MIT. 3. Learn about death. It's a lively topic! 4. Volunteer at a local organization. 5. Get a part-time summer job. |

Desmond: I'd say you could work on adding an article to your site, or connect with a person online who you could team up with to create something. On that note about boredom, you would be hard-pressed to find an adult that is bored, and since adults likely have more experience, being bored wouldn't appear to be advantageous, so if you started putting in effort for tasks that would not leave you bored, you could get adult advantages before adult pressures set in. |

| Hmm. I didn't perceive him to be whining at all. Besides, not whining can be a good thing, but it won't cure boredom by itself. Des, have you thought of any other ideas? Have you taken any action on them? This post has many suggestions: How to beat the boredom of the Weekends. |

Desmond: You do bring up a valid point there, as some adults may seem to be bored. I don't think they would desire to continue to be bored though. It is sort of like a delay for nothing. Boredom in that case could instead be called "the feeling when you haven't found the activity that suits you".

You may be in the consciousness level termed "neutrality", where the largest annoyance is the lack of motivation to take action. Just keep the thought of attaining a higher level of self-power in the back of your mind, and eventually you will move up into the next level of consciousness. (it took me more than a year - but I got there!) |

Meditation relieves boredom. Learn to meditate! It will serve you the rest of your life. Michael Bernard Beckwith says that "boredom is the effort it takes to block creativity". Is there a creative outlet besides drawing that you could use to express yourself? |
