Default Time Management is a Waste of My Time!

I'm trying to manage my time better, but all I seem to hear is that I should have a day planner and use a calendar. This doesn't help me!

I think there must be more to time management than just planning things and writing A, B and C next to your list. This doesn't save me time, it takes up more time!

I need ways to manage my time that don't waste my time.

I completely understand. Those don't particularly save me time either. Now a calendar for appointments has helped me tremendously with keeping track of my responsibilities. But it didn't help me with the general sense of getting things done.

Have you read Getting Things Done by David Allen?

The whole priorities A,B,C style is suppossed to help you do less of (or avoid completely) what doesn't help you achieve your goals and do more of the important things that move you forward.

Although planning does help you do things better and faster, to me, the best advantage is that it shows me, from the whole spectrum of things to do, which are the ones that require my immediate attention.

just being clear on what I need to do first and why has increased my productivity enormously. Watching less TV is a side effect of that too Not that I don't want to watch TV anymore, I still do, but i got so many more things I want to do more than just sitting infront ot the box. This kind of motivation comes with a clear goal and a clear action plan

Getting Things Done is awesome, a must read. Time of Your life (by Tony Robbins) is a great program too, taught me a lot. Both focus more on Life Management, rather than Time Management

Try Zen To Done. It only expects you to do three things a day :V

Time management is a great use of your time if you find the right tools to work for you. Personally, I like things to be simple and easy to use. Like you I do not have use for doing extensive tracking, etc....

Start by doing this - identify three things you want to get done everyday. Make sure they are things to help you achieve a goal. Just list them on a piece of paper at the beginning of the day. At the end of the day check if done, do not check if not done.

File your daily list in a folder. At the end of the week, go back and review. You can see where you are making progress and where you are not.

Anyway, just keep searching until you find what works for you.

Good luck.

I believe i manage my time well. I do not use a planner or anything all it require is doing what is most important and letting it trickle down to those things that are not so important
