Default Any Hypnotherapists? Need Guidance

Hi All,

I'm facing a unique challenge and I wonder if a hypnotherapist might be helpful...

I am extremely distracted by noise. When I'm home in my apartment, I'm constantly bothered by my neighbors' bumps, bangs, and door slams. I've always been sensitive to noise, but it appears to be getting worse. I already sleep with a loud fan and I've even taken to wearing those damned ear protectors that landscape/lawn workers wear (I think I look pretty silly walking around my apartment like that! ).

Anyway, I don't think it's a physical problem. Sounds do not hurt my ears. They just drive me crazy - I get distracted and angry.

Bottom line: I'm wondering if this might be helped by hypnotherapy.

Any and all advice is appreciated!

Hypnotheraphy might help you, but you might also try something else.

Since you control the volume button in your head you can change how loudly you hear things, you can turn it down when you are studying. By getting angry the button controls you instead of you controlling it.

How about you start by changing the emotion that you feel, the easiest way to do that is changing the word you use when it happens, so instead of becoming angry, become curious as to why the sound made you loose focus.

You should also work on turning the volume button down in your head for sudden noices, it is completely normal to get distracted by a sudden noice, because it is supposed to be a warning sign. Now if you let you mind know that you are safe where you are sitting and notify it that it doesn´t need to be aware of sounds around you, then you should be able to focus better. Remember you can´t force your mind, you have to either negotiate with it or ask it nicely.

Hope this helps, let me know if you need help in doing exercises that can help you with this.

Mindformula,

Thanks for the reply. I've tried some techniques to change the way I respond the the noises, including NLP anchoring, EFT, and meditation. Unfortunately, I still cannot seem to desensitize myself to this.

I live in a noisy apartment building and when the neighbors slam their doors or walk heavily, I can feel the floor vibrate (I live on the 3rd floor). So, I use a loud fan to create "white noise" to block out some of the noises.

Anyway, I would be interested in hearing more about any techniques you suggest for coping with this issue.

Thanks.

Do you have gone to a NLP practitioner or EFT practioner for this? If you haven't it could be the case that you are doing something wrong, so it doesn't mean automatically that a Hynosis pratitioner or NLP practioner couldn't help you.

Hmm... Interesting case. Of course the more you get stressed about it the more you hear it. I used to live next to a train track. For the first few nights I was woken every few hours, but after a few weeks I naturally desensitzed myself.

As to whether Hypnosis would be able to help you..? My guess (and thats all it is) is yes. My reasoning is that you could use Self-Hypnosis when this is happening, so rather having a negative experiance you will have a postive one.

Goodluck Rockford!

Brutha: No, I haven't been to see any formal practitioners, but I've attempted to resolve the problem myself using the different techniques, including EFT and NLP. I'm inclined to think that a professional would be more suited to solving the problem, though.

hypno-therapist: Your response gave me another idea. I could attempt to desensitize myself by turning off the fan and simply allowing all of the noises to come at me full-strength. Maybe, over time, I would become desensitized. Of course, in the short term, I probably would get *zero* sleep and would have to adjust to that. In any case, you're absolutely right: The more I stress about the sounds, the more I hear them. And, if we apply the Law of Attraction, the more I stress about the sounds, the more I attract them.

Argh.

Default have the noises help you relax

I can't remember the exact wording, but in a self hypnosis seminar that I've attended a few times, the instructor put a phrase in there that was something like this...

"I am completely relaxed and focused. With each breath I take, I go into a deeper state of mind. I am oblivious to miscellaneous noises. In fact, every noise that I hear helps me relax and concentrate even better that before."

There was also something in there about emercengy noises and that if the fire alarm went off or something, we would be immediately wide awake and ready to take whatever action was needed at the appropriate time.

Anyhow, I have absolutely no problem with noises while I meditate anymore. Good luck to you!
Rebecca

Hi all,

In Hypnosis sessions with my clients I sometimes use the following suggestion.

"Noises around you are unimportant and as they fade into the distance, they just help you to relax - deeper and deeper - now"

Hope this helps.
