Default How do I adjust my sleep schedule?

Hi folks,

I've fell into a pretty ugly rut. I don't fall asleep till around 6 am, then wake up at 1 pm. I kinda wanna flip that around and wake up at around 6 instead of falling asleep at 6!!!

I don't know how to flip it around. I've tried to stay up for 30 hours straight, but then my schedule just gets knocked off again.

Any ideas/suggestions?

I was in a similar sleeping pattern, I used to work the graveyard shift and I would get off work at 7 am, go to bed around 9 or 10 and then sleep til 5 or 6, sometimes 7. When I got laid off, I kinda had to switch my schedule around otherwise I wouldn't be able to search for a job or get up for job interviews, prepare for a normal schedule, etc.

What I did was go to bed an hour earlier every day and then get up an hour earlier. It is hard, I won't say I wasn't tired, but in one week I went from getting up at 7 to getting up at noon. And it takes a few weeks for your body to fully adjust, so don't give in and just sleep as long as you want, you must go to bed when you should and get up when you should otherwise it throws it all out of whack again.

And if you're a natural night owl like me, then it is even harder. I still prefer to get up around noon and go to bed around 3 am. I am praying I don't get a morning shift job!

Good luck with this!

Hmm, I think I may be adjusting. Sort of. We will see after tonight.

I woke up at around 1 yesterday. Went to sleep around 10. Woke up again at 3 am. Have been awake since then. Well, minus a few 10 minute naps here and there

So yeah, I need to get my ass back on track!

Solid consistency will be the biggest help. Ruthlessly waking up at the same time each day for a week will help you along the way.
