I was thinking about how time hemorrhages when I tell myself to find an answer to a problem I don't really understand. I become transfixed and obsessive and fail to manage my time any more. It's the most destructive habit I possess. I feel out of control and maladaptively determined to fix the problem through trial and error. I don't allow myself to move on with my life without finding the answer, or until hours have passed and my frustration is through the roof. So unreasonable. Next time, I reasoned I would use a timer and commit only 10 minutes of research to a task at a time, putting myself back in control. If I can conquer this tendency of mine, I'd be SO MUCH better off! It doesn't happen every day, but it's a serious source of stress and incongruity. Are you familiar with this? Does this happen to you? Any advice? |
