I am at a point right now in my life where I feel that I have a lot of catching up to do in order to be where I'd like to be in my life. My list of weaknesses and flaws that I have to work on are many, and especially pertain to the area of personal effectiveness. They include time-management, efficiency, getting on a schedule, consistency, and self-discipline. My three 30-day challenges that I am working on right now are: getting the mail and going through it every day (it used to be my husbands responsibility, but he never went through it), excercising daily, and waking up at 7:00am daily. I have a great understanding of where I am and where I'd like to be five years from now. My long-term goals (for five years and beyond) include (but are not limited to) becoming a professional artist, a proficient swing, salsa and belly-dancer, starting a blog (or blogs) on a topic that is both interesting and profitable (I have a lot of ideas but not sure which to start first), designing and making fashionable clothing and interior decor, traveling the world, and especially finding a way (my own) to help humanity in some meaningful way. In addition, I never want to stop learning either through first-hand or vicarious means. All of these things I intend to do while taking my two kids along for the joy ride. Do I think that I can do this, given that I am starting from a point of low discipline? Yes, because I have drive and purpose, and for the first time I feel like I have both meaning and empowerment in my life simultaneously. This is big for me, because previously I knew what I wanted, just now how to achieve it. There are a lot of valuable lessons on this website, for those of us willing to try, that encourage those feeling less-abled. It is entirely up to us to make the first step and get over the fear of just doing it. My first step is simply to work on the 30-day challenges above and then to keep up those habits as I challenge myself in other areas of life. And if I do fail, that's just an opportunity to do better next time. Trying and failing is better than never having tried at all. Last edited by Strawberry; 06-11-2009 at 12:41 AM. |

I used to think I didn't know what I wanted because I have so many varied interests and wanted it all. I thought I had to narrow it down, which saddened me. But now I want to do everything. Just not all at once. |
