Hi all, I'm new here and I was wondering if you could give me some advice... I've been tackling with the question as to what I want to do with my life and currently I'm coming up blank but what I really wanted to know was, how do I manage and work on ALL of my goals at once, it seems to me to be quite an effort if I were to focus on everything at once... and I wanted to know what you kind people might have to say about my dilemma. Peace to you all! |

What I've learned is that there is a limit to what I can invest myself into effort wise. I can take 1 step every day on 20 things and at the end of the month I'm barely closer to my goal. Or I can take 1 step each day on 1 thing and by the end be alot closer to my goal. What I have found works for me is having a 3 Goals for the year and then having a single focus. So for right now my goal is to become financially independent (i.e. JOBless) and I am pursuing that single mindedly. Once I hit the point where that is self-sustaining I can pursue my next goal, a community for personal development oriented minds in my local community. After doing things to move my goal forward I take the time to do some stuff to recouperate. Anyhow I highly recommend focus (Steve talks about it here Rapid Improvement ). | |

You can't work on all of your goals at the same time. That would be impossible, unless all your goals happen to be achieved by the same actions. You're always doing one thing at a time. If you're drawing a blank about what you want to do with your life (and I presume by that you mean you don't have any large long term goals), then your current short term goals may lack direction. In order to achieve the smaller goals in life I think it's good to do some thinking about the larger ones. And while you figure out what you want to do with your life, don't forget to attend to the basics. No matter what you choose to do, you'll probably want to keep your body and mind healthy. Read a lot, exercise, eat well, drink well and sleep well. A lot of people forget these things while they try to achieve success in other areas.

write down your goals and put a date beside each one that you want to accomplish for example you could achieve each goal on a weekly basis. And therefore go toward each goal with full force and learn and do as much as you can to achieve the desired goal

Try organizing your Goals into a couple of categories. Not many, one category for each area of life that is important to you. For example personal development, career, money, relationships etc. Then work only on the most important goal from each category. They can be tackled together but probably not on a daily basis, that is you can't focus effectively on 4 goals each day. Work instead in larger time-frames, for example a week frame. And of course, make adjustments on the way, as you take action and learn new things.

It is hard but not impossible to work on all your goals at once. I have found that it helps me to have 3 Focus Goals for the next few months and bring each one in to focus on a different day or week depending on its nature, and to have an accompanying 'routine' or habit goal for each focus goal which I do when it is not the 'focus'. For example, I am learning arabic. When it is the 'Focus Goal' I spend 3 hours a day on it, but when it is not the focus goal, I try to spend 30 minutes a day on it, so I am still making progress, though more slowly. Here's a method I recently came across which you could use to make a little progress against all your goals concurrently. This idea could be adapted to suit yourself! I think you have to start slowly and build up momentum. But definitely focus on one at a time, at least for short periods. Once you have built up momentum, you can shift focus. it's the first bit when you are getting the ball rolling that is hardest. check out this article: How to Take Consistent Action: 7 Powerful Tips and this one: The Kaizan Blog » The Key to Starting a New Habit They are good ones for starting a habit and keeping on going with it |
