| When I'm in a low energy state, which is often due to medical conditions, I tend to spend countless hours playing stupid computer games online (like pinball). I learn nothing from these. I have tried to substitute this with reading books but I cannot keep my concentration and I don't have the energy needed to clean the room and such instead... The only thing I've come up with so far is playing scrabble instead, but I still think I could do a little better than that. Suggestions? What I'm looking for is, to clarify, something similiarly demanding but something more productive educating and so on.,, |

| You could try to play more intelligent games and not against the computer (which I think is somewhat dull) but against real human beings. If you like chess or go (the latter is my personal favourite) you can log onto a game server any time you like and at the same time get some practise in the game of your choice. The nice thing about human beings is that they have the ability to get nervous and that they occasionally like to chat. |

| Maybe you should try meditation, guided meditation, or listening to an audiobook? |

| Perhaps you're looking at it the wrong way, sometimes when playing a 'stupid' video game you can switch off your brain and your mind becomes peaceful. It's a lot like meditation. Perhaps the reason you are compelled to play these games is because your mind is craving the calm.... |

| Listing to various Podcasts that teach you something. It is similar to reading books but not as energy consuming. In addition you can multitask and hear the Podcast at the same time you play your computer games. Quote:
I know someone who is stuck at his playing strength in Go because she can't deal with her fear of losing something. Such problems become visible on the Goban, it gives you a different way to look at fundamental things like the flow of black and white, fear and greed. I haven't personally played chess at a higher level so I can't comment on its usefullness. In addition the brain develops when it is used. Playing Go or Chess uses the brain.

| One idea would also be to totally filter out the sites that you waste time with, either at the router level of on the computer. So if you try to go to the sites, they won't show up. Another idea is to make the home page something more related to personal development, so as soon as you open your browser, that that is what's coming up and your focus will be caught up in that.
