I am trying to figure out what I want to do for a living, and i've been struggling with it every day for the last 4 months and counting. I cant stop THINKING about it. How do you stop thinking and analyzing and just DO something? What if you feel like everything you think about has problems so you keep thinking to find ways around those problems or to find something that doesnt involve problems but then you realize nothing is without problems and you are just thinking too much?! But isnt it just as bad to not think enough? In my specific situation, I have a one-shot only deal where i'll get free money for schooling, and so naturally I want to go for the right thing and not something I'll regret or want to change later, because it's either do that or do nothing. But i can't narrow it down to any specific job because I want to try like 15 things! And every day is just a swirling vortex of thinking and i am just too indecisive! Another problem is this; It seems like with jobs, 99% of people aren't happy with them anyway, and they just do them cuz they have to. Even people who are doing their dream job warn against it because if you do what you love for 8 hours every day, it will suck the fun right out of it because it becomes a JOB and not their passion anymore. So how do you do what you love without having it feel forced? I LOVE music more than anything in the world and I used SBI to create a music site which I've had for 5 months now, and most of the time it feels like a chore to work on it. WHY!? I love it, WHY is it not fun anymore? This fuels my fears that whatever job I choose to go to school for will ruin my love for it! How do I get out of this rut!? I'm running out of money and I have to make a decision FAST and the pressure isn't helping any! |

Yah, your caught is some major ego stuff.. been there done that.. just this sunday I was supposed to be preparing to leave today and so I jumped around for a hour or two trying to make the right decision.. (leave or not to leave) finally I just went with a decision I had already made.. leave I made preparations to leave.. and I called around to check in with people about leaving.. I called my uncle and it turns out he was contemplating a visit to the same place I was in 2 weeks.. so I checked with another person and they preferred to leave in 2 weeks to meet with my uncle.. so bam.. the decision was made by first acting on one.. and then getting a change midway.. The truth is less complication here and more truth.. you need to make a decision that is alignment with your deepest good feelings that's joy, excitement etc. if both decisions are like this.. then acting on either one will help you out.. the best thing to really do is make the decision and know you'll be supported either way.. and know that you really haven't lost any options though of course in your decision agonizing you obviously think you will.. So I would seriously look at either decision again from the perspective of excitement and joy.. and understand that, that may not be a long-term decision you may be pulled in a different direction all together within a short time.. but just start the journey.. And finally one last thing.. I know that you think our job is to do the thinking.. but in truth it’s not.. our job is just to find ourselves here.. much of the real thinking is done on another plane.. not here.. so the best thing to do is follow your excitement, joy, highest intuition |

Thanks, Themaster! I especially like that last part. I do know deep down that i SHOULD do ANY one of my prospective careers, but it's perfectionism and fear that stops me. I guess i should go in the threads that talk about how to get over those problems! Thanks again for replying! |
