I found out that unless I use extreme overwhelming force I can't consitently be productive without turning to habits such as watching tv programs I don't really like, or mindlessly browsing the net for random things. So I cut out tv and casual internet use all together. At school in my dorm. I unplugged and cut the cable to my tv and put away my computer. What this did was bore me into production. This all worked until I came back home for the summer. I'll be here for the next two weeks before I get an apartment. Now when got home I could not unplugged the tv or the computer as they are from family use. I went right by to unproductive habits (not going to the gym watching useless tv, and websites) Now I start work tomarrow which should take up free time now. But how do I use overwhelming force in the situation now? |

Quite simple. Start a 30-day trial. No TV and no internet use except where required. 30 Day Trials: How To Succeed At 30-Day Trials should provide you some tips. It's what I use to give myself the motivation to do my trials (and as of today, I'm doing five of them at once). The most important tip, if you don't have time to read the article, is to elevate the importance of the trial in your mind until it would be sacrilege to even think of failing. It's like your parents would have conditioned things into you when you were young: always look both ways before crossing the street. I'd be willing to bet that most people do this to this day, no matter how old they are. I've successfully conditioned myself to not fail my 30-day trials. Anytime I'd even think of giving up, my brain would give me a mental block to not do it. If you don't know what I'm talking about, try not speaking for 10 minutes. Tell yourself you must not speak, keep reinforcing it. After the 10 minutes, you can speak. That's the mental block I was talking about. This one's very easy to get past, but if you spend a lot more time reinforcing it, it's an excellent tool to help you. |
