I’ve had a life coach tell me and read in several books that “when you change the way look at things, the way things look starts to change.” While I understood this theoretically, I have really struggled with it. Having gone through a somewhat tough time lately, I felt the other day as if my whole life has gone in circles, because I’m back to where I was right when I graduated from undergrad. I have little money, I could end up at my parents house, and it’s another recession. So, I thought I’ve really just gone in circles for 10 years. Then my roommate gave me a very brilliant insight. He said, that’s only because you are looking at it from the top and from the top it appears to be circles. Look at it from the side, and you’ll see how you’ve spiraled upwards. ![]() ![]() As you’ll see in the two pictures above they both represent a very similar structure. But if you are at the bottom of the staircase and look from side to side, you will see that around the staircase is what is probably a marvelous construction job. This is like the constructs of our life. Even when we feel we are going in circles, the world around is being influenced in a wonderful way, and we are actually accomplishing more than we give ourselves credit for. When you start shift perspectives, things start to look quite a bit different. |

Great. Now if you look hard enough you may find yourself an elevator. Good analogy though. There was another pretty good one posted a while back, about motivation being like a sinusoid curve. I like that people are finding creative ways of describing their experience. |

Our perspective act as a pair of glasses. It can affect what we are seeing. If we are able to see through a pair of positive glasses, we can enhance our quality of life greatly and achieve much more in life. Cheers, Vincent |

I really like this theory...here's one of the things I get from it. If you feel your life is going in circles, step back and realize that you are probably one flight higher than the last time you checked. The circular stairs really puts that in perspective. Thank you for sharing. |
