Default The Apollo Mission - 30 day progress evidence log

Evening ladies & gents!

Ok answering to myself and my laptop doesn't seem to be working for my personal growth aspirations! and after reading some other 30 day trials I am feeling really insipired to give this a shot, I rekon being answerable to this thread might just spur me on to achieve my goal which is....

To achieve DOCUMENTED progress against 3 areas of my life that will allow me to review in 30 days time, so far in my life I either make no progress or I dont bother documenting it and so dismiss it as no progress, I will update this thread to document daily progress against the areas outlined below.

I think knowing this thread is online will spur me to action as the embarressment of not updating it or making progress being visable to others is more of a motivator right now, my brain has grown ever ingenious ways of hiding its procrastination addiction from me !

So here is whats on the menu...

Bodybuilding

Been on and off for 7 years now and have built an ok ame BUT not good enough for me and what my body can achieve, routines have come and gone and I have half assed diets, for next 30 days I will look to maintain:

3 day split: Push / Pull / Legs + 3 Hiit cardio sessions per week

Diet - won't list here yet but boils down to 6 meals per day + aiming to drink 4 litres of water per day.

Career

Massive sticking point for me!, I did summon the courage to hand my notice in to my mundane job that was really affecting my life, so over next 30 days I must spend time daily on finding a new job in the short term, not just any job but one I can learn something from at least and is a better fit for my values.

Also I have started a couple of self observing documents I need to complete within the 30 days - charting my interests and values etc...trying to collate this into something I can use to reveal a career path I can start down.

Spanish

Been learning for 3 months now at a college evening course, decided as a native English speaker I like so many was guilty of ignorance and complacency in regards to foreign language so I decided to learn spanish, hope to travel south america in future so this is a good idea.

over next 30 days I will look to spend a MINIMUM of 30 mins per day learning spanish, I will list here what I focused on and technique used (reading / audio etc..)

So there is is, really excited about this...but I have been excited a million times before then DONE nothing..forget that it is time to KICK ass in a Chuck Norris kinda way....ok off to gym now to really nail my back!...will update before I rest my head for the night

Ok so the 30 days will begin from tommorow but what a warm up evening!, came home, haven't turned the TV or Xbox on...got a diet plan / training routine down on paper, posted up this log, went to the gym and about to get some decent sleep for once!

NOTE TO SELF: Buy some freakin gym gloves! 170kg deadlifts were no fun with the bar slipping outta my hands!

Tommorow:

Alarm set for 6.00 am, early riser time...chuck days food in my bag then head off to gym for 7.00am for a Hiit session!

TODAYS CONCLUSION: My mood is seriously lifted right now, maybe its reading back what I've started tonight or maybe its the adrenaline still in me from the serious pump in the gym..either way i'm feelin sweet!

Night people...no internet access tommorow night so next update comes - weds 29th!

Ok early update from work!

So far so good...

Target wake time - 6am - Achieved 6.12am, ok so not bang on but close enough better than snoozing the alarm clock for 45 mins like normal then crawling out of my bed like something out of the grudge!

Bodybuilding

Was in the gym at 7am, High intensity Cardio...didn't go well actually, worse than normal my fitness has clearly taken a hit since I stopped regular cardio...I only managed around 16 mins at 6km/h jog for 2 min intervals followed by 1 min at 16 km/h intervals....my previous best was 25 mins at 6.5 / 16.5 respectivly

I haven't been drinking enough water lately and also I normally do cardio on an empty stomach but I had some cottage cheese before I went today.

Conclusion:

Good on me for getting up and going, but will make sure i'm properly hydrated and no food before the next session which is thursday 29th.

Career
Its 10.22am and i'm at work, haven't done anything on this yet...think i'll look to apply for a position on my lunch break at 1pm.

Spanish

Synched Pimsleur Spanish course to my Iphone and listened for 20 minutes on my walk to work, you know I spend at least 1.5 hours commuting each day and at least 30 mins of that is walking, thats a lot of time that can be used to learn my Spanish!...so I will continue listening to and from work + my home sessions.

So overall first day is off to good start....my mood is still VERY good...best for a long time!

Ok it's into day 2 of 30, Day one went ok but improvements can be made today!

Day 1 Results:

Bodybuilding
Ok so I hit the gym early in the morning, good for gettin up early and hitting it, not so good in that I wasn't happy with my cardio performance, I stopped mid way (25 min session) this was because my stupid headphones fell out and were gonna trip me up, this put me off my flow

Note: NO MORE HEADPHONES ON TREADMILL!

Diet wise I ate 5 meals yesterday, should be at least 6...1 was a cheat meal also but this is scheduled as me and the girlfriend normally eat out on a tuesday or a sat night, I didnt have my late night cottage cheese supply at her place either so missed it.

Note: Must keep supplies at girlfriends place!

I also only drank approx 2.5 litres water yesterday...target is 4.

Career

Didn't work on this yesterday, only opportunity I had was on my 1 hour lunch break in which I spent 30 mins eating followed by 30 mins learning spanish.

I did however get offered a job by a friend of mine with a small business so this creates another income source when I leave my main job whilst i'm uncovering my ultimate passion!

Spanish

Ok spent at least 45 mins yesterday listening to the BRILLIANT pimsleur Spanish course, this was over my minimum 30mins per day so GOOD GOOD!

Yesterdays learning enables me to be confident speaking and listening to a spanish conversation, it was amazing when the conversation was played at the end of the lesson and I understood it all with ease!

Some snippets of what I learned (please excuse spelling, the course is focused on speaking)

"Perdon, Senorita, entiende ingles?"
Pardon / Excuse me Miss, do you understand English?

"No Senor, no entiendo ingles, hablo castallano"
No Sir, I do not understand English, I speak Spanish

Day 1 Conclusion

Still feeling GREAT and motivated, ok so I haven't moved mountains yet but hey Rome wasn't built in a day eh!

Day 2 update later tonight....have a great day people!

Stick a fork in day 2 because its DONE!
Day 2 Results:

Bodybuilding
No gym on wednesdays, can't go in the morning as i'm at the girlfriends place which isn't near my gym + spanish lesson in evening so its my day off

Diet wise I ate 6 meals today, no supplies at girls house so really had to wing this one,
Breakfast: An apple + glass of water + an egg and spinach sandwich when I got to work
Meal 2:Other egg spincach sandwich + mixed nuts / raisins
Lunch: Chilli con corne / white rice
Meal 4:Can of tuna - seed mix
Meal 5: Beef + Rice
Meal 6: Wholemeal dried bread + 3 slices of ham

CONCLUSION: NOWHERE near good enough, down to lack of planning...should have pre-prepared supplies at my girls house ready for work...will implement this next tuesday.

Drank approx 3.5 litres of water today..still under target of 4 BUT improvement from day 1!


Note: Must keep supplies at girlfriends place!


Career:

Poor, spent some of my lunchtime browsing job postings but I DID nothing...no applications etc..., day 3 goal - apply for at least one position.

Spanish
Excellent!, after day 1 findings regarding best usage of wasted commuting time I listened to about 40 mins of pimsleur spanish on way to work...also 25 mins at lunch + 25 mins whilst cutting my hair, also went to evening class

Total time spent on spanish - 3 hours 30 mins!

Good stuff

Day 2 Conclusion

My mood is still high, I have been more alert and definitely feeling happy with myself, I put this down to the journal, the action i'm taking and the diet + increase water consumption, another significant observation is that I have not watched an TV or played video games since I started this, also getting to sleep earlier!

Day 3

Another good day!, despite the weather being rubbish I was feeling fresh and uplifted all day, my new state is now being noticed by others which is excellent.

The motivation to maintain this thread and the work involved to enable a positive update is still there like it was as I began, this is great...I am finding reading back over the last few days is giving me new perspective.

I've also found my mind is beginning to notice and retain details such as "what have I done differently today" or "why do I feel good right now", these questions I ask so I have something to write about and review but the side effect is I am honing my self observation abilities already, excellent!

Ok so on to the update,

Bodybuilding

GREAT!, ok so I was up at 6am AGAIN and in gym by 7am, now after day 1s performance in the cardio session I was skeptical of how it would go BUT I managed my target time + speeds, I thought of stopping at 20 mins but I pushed through to 25 which I was very happy about!

Stuck to my diet and drank approx 3.5 litres of water..still 0.5 off target but improving daily.

After work I was right back in the gym for a chest and tricep workout which was intense and completed in under an hour.

Career

Nothing done today, not good...basically I mentioned my short term goal is to find a job for the immediate future but this is to vague, I need to write down what kind of job is acceptable, what I want to learn and the DEADLINE for attaining that job.

Set aside 1 hour this coming monday to achieve this.

Spanish

At least 45 mins of pimsleur spanish today, I have hit my target for spanish everyday this week that is brilliant progress!, consider the fact that before I began this log I would say I achieved 30 mins learning per WEEK if that , not including college course, by my poor maths standards thats a 1000% increase!!

Conclusion

Its late and I must sleep so I'll be brief, wicked day, wicked site, feeling amazing and gonna continue this until the end then onwards and upwards!

Day 4

Was in a slightly weird mood on day 4 for about 5 hours from 9am, couldn't pinpoint it, wasn't feeling particulary upbeat or down either, lasted a few hours I think poissibly just put this down to not enough sleep, I find that because I have become an early riser but haven't quite become an early sleeper yet i am not getting enough sleep, I would say 6 hours average and this needs to be upped next week to 7.

Also I had planned to go to the gym but due to logistics surroundng a work night out I rescheduled this, I think the combo of not having the good feeling gained after a workout + a hint of guilt for not going contributed to the weird mood.

Bodybuilding

No gym day 4/5 - Work night out friday meant no gym, working saturday 8.30-7pm (day 5) gym closes at 8pm...damn now thats cold blooded!

Diet was fine on day 4 until dinner when It went downhill due to work night out, alcohol flowing - BAD, No late night protein intake - BAD, drunken meal consisting of chips + chicken burger at 3.30am!!!!?? -BAAAAAAAAD , Apollo what the HELL was that you mess..no more of that rubbish!

Career

Nothing here to report really - searched for a few jobs online and DAYUMM I need to be very focused on identifying my passion because I cant take these random useless and boring jobs but like I said above its useless until I document the clear aims, scheduled for this coming monday.

Spanish
Min 30 mins completed, imporant thing here is to congratulate myself on sticking to it, I am finding it easier and I am not building the learning into habits that I repeat with ease daily , such as the listening to spanish on way to work!

I have to recognise this PROGRESS, well done me hehe!

I also decided to change the language on my Iphone to spanish, I would recommend this as you are used to where things go so its faily easily to understand what the corresponding words mean!

Conclusion

Not great, ok so I was going out and had work but nothing really got done, decided that drinking in excess is a no go because I am only seeing negatives - dependancy , dehydration, excess weight etc... all for the sake of being "cool" with the gang...well dammit I'm like an empty fridge baby...I dont need beer inside me to be cool

Ok I will admit I got caught SLIPPIN on this since day 5 update, day 6/7/8 do not warrent a post each so I will condense them into 1 update then get this back on track.

Right well day 5 basically revolved around a big work night out involving a lot of alcohol, day 6/7 paid for it!....

Bodybuilding

No gym work on day 6...that was saturday and I begin work at 8.30am and finish at 7pm, my gym closes at 8pm so it doesn't allow a proper workout.

I did however eat 6 meals but I definitely came no where near my 4 litres of water target.

Day 7 was sunday - I did actually do a Hiit cardio session before work which was new and I felt beter for it at work KEEP THIS UP!

Diet was fine but water target not hit again...ok running theme here is that I never come close to water target on weekends, must bring big bottle to work and keep it there like I do monday to friday.

Day 8 - well another night out sunday for bank holiday resulted in me sleeping in with girlfriend til 3pm...diet wasn't followed although we did both hit the gym in the afternoon.

Career - FAILED

Well nothing happened here over day 6/7/8 I did say I would spend an hour on day 8 (monday) to work on goal setting but it didn't happen, unacceptable...I think i'm going to can looking for another "job" because I do have a job to go to when I leave my main work and I quite enjoy it, its a pay cut but its worth it to save my mental health!

HOWEVER I MUST dedicate my time now to working on a real passionate career, goal setting, soul searching the lot.

Spanish
30 min min learning achieved?:
Day 6-No
Day 7-No
Day 8-No

Ok so I am seeing my progression tail off massively after 1) Alcohol filled nights, 2) weekends, these points need addressing.

CONCLUSION

Ok going out and getting wasted doesn't fit with my desired lifestyle, it hinders my progression, encourages massive procrastination (i'll do it when my head feels better) and just makes me feel rubbish...not to mention my health, SO from now on there will be no more getting drunk, I will still have the social drink but I will not allow pier pressure to affect my values.

Exception will be made for birthdays only, if I deviate from this I must post online so that I may feel some shame!

On to day 9...lets get back on track.

Day 9


Bodybuilding

Weds is day off gym so nothing to mention here apart from the fact I only ate 5 meals and drank 3 not 4 litres of water!...struggling with 4 litres.

Career

Due to me deciding to continue with more hours in my 2nd job I will not be looking for another "job" to take up a full 7 days work, i'll take the pay cut so i'm not sacrificing all my precious time for the sake of a few £'s, I am working on some more 30 day trials that will focus on moving towards a CAREER!

For now I will discontinue this section of the update.

Spanish
Did 30 mins audio listening again on day 9 + took my last spanish lesson of my 3 month course, I am proud of finishing the course...it was the first step in showing evidence to myself that I am persistant, of 17 people who took the course only 7 finished it and only 3 including me attended every lesson...I am hard on myself but I HAVE recognised this as a small personal achievement

Day 10

Feeling sweet today, mainly because i'm over the unproductive weekend and back into focus....for so long I have been trying to get the big rusted heavy wheels of my life turning and after a little greasing they are beginning to turn!...definitely a feeling i'm looking to hang onto!

As explained earlier career section has gone for now, replacing with "Positive Actions", I will use this section to make note of anything I feel is relevant as personal progression so that I have more evidence to review at end of day 30.

Bodybuilding

Good chest and tricep workout today, decided that for the fitness and physique goals and visualisations I have I am not putting enough in to get there, I am showing dedication but not the level required, yes I work 7 days per week but NO MORE EXCUSES, people have achieved the kind of results I want with hectic lives, I cannot compare myself to them but I will not accept I cannot achieve the same, I can.

So what is lacking - DIET PREP, I MUST prepare and freeze meals ready for the upcoming week, this cuts out "improvising" with sub standard food or not even eating at all, this is the KEY to taking me to the next level and I have neglected this.

GOAL - Prepare food for week starting 11th May, this will be day 13 of the 30 days.

Spanish

Listened for about 20mins today, off target.

Positive Actions

Started another 30 day trial and i'm using mynexthabit.com that I picked up from another member here, thanks for that!

The trial is to learn 10 new spanish words per day.

CONCLUSION:

No denying my progress here, no it isn't perfect, no it isn't massively organised BUT it IS progress, its shifting my mindset my ego is learning that shielding me from seeing my progression gets me no where...I can feel things becoming much more positive in my life!

Off to bed...gotta be up for the gym!

One simple method to learn words is using cards:
1. Write down Spanish word on one side and English word on another. One word per card.
2. Take all cards in your hands and go through each of them. Put the cards you know translation into one stack and others into other stack.
3. Take the stack you knew translation and repeat same as #2. There will be some words you knew translation before but do not know it anymore.
4. You may put away those words which landed in know-translation stack again.
5. Repeat from #2 with the other stack.

Day 11 / 12 / 13

Ok didn't have time to update online over last few days,

Day 11

Bodybuilding
Hit the gym in the morning - good
Should of gone in the evening too but fell asleep..woops!

Spanish

Only listened for about 15 mins on day 11 but I did learn my 10 new words as part of my 30 day trial.

Positive Actions
I spent time writing a couple of self observation documents, looking into the decisions I have and haven't made in the past and again trying to get closer to a passion I can throw myself into.

Day 12 / 13

Bodybuilding

Good diet followed both days - not enough water AGAIN, gonna really go for it this new week starting monday day 14.

I went to gym early on day 12...great stuff as its a saturday and I start work at 8.30am so this is a real sign of commitment!, the gym was closed so early so I improvised byt going for a run before work!...EXCELLENT.

Spanish

Listened for about 25 mins per day and learned some new words.

positive actions

Well its important to note that I feel so much better since really pursuing developing myself and recording my progress and taking real tangible ACTION, you know my ego has still tried to bring me down and "protect" me, sometimes I get frustrated because I think although i'm taking action its not enough or I missed something in a day I wanted to do etc...

Through all of this my ego repeats the same old tune "you can't get this right so it wont produce the results...give up now"...only thing is this is the first time I have turned round and said "**** you ego boy" and carried on with it, in time I will show my ego that procrastination is no way to protect me, I will show that I can handle success and achievement and will move forward always developing.

Off for some well deserved downtime before bed, Apollo out...

Day 14 Update

Bodybuilding

For the first time since I began training I honestly feel as though i'm taking it seriously without making excuses, i'm drinking water, preparing and sticking to set meals and i'm in the gym nearly every morning and then 3 nights of the week aswell...its getting easier to stick to all this because the KEY is that i've given my body enough time to experience the benefits rather than giving up before I got to that point.

Day 14 I hit cardio in the morning before work and went straight back after work to complete my back / bicep workout.

Spanish

Listened for my 30 mins - good going

Positive Actions

Signed up to begin self defense training classes - Krav Maga, been meaning to do this for ages but procrastinated like hell..no more! start on weds can't wait!

I also read some more of the excellent "4 hour work week" by Tim Ferris

Conclusion

Things are still going great and i'm feeling the same, the best bit is that I am overcoming my major sticking point which was thinking I had to know everything and plan everything to a tee before starting..thats retarded and I know it now, just DO IT NOW and i'll adjust as I go along.

Day 15

Bodybuilding

I woke up late due to falling asleep without setting my alarm clock, I didn’t really have time for the gym and before I began this journey I would definitely have skipped it, but not today I went to the gym and even though I only managed 15 of my 25 mins due to lack of time I still went and that’s the kind of dedication I am striving for.

Ate good clean meals all day and approx 3 litres of water.

Spanish

Achieved my daily 30 mins listening, I also began a document which is targeting the subjects that I will use in a typical day so that I can focus my learning on my own interests.

Once this document is complete then I will begin a 30 day trial to learn 10 words or phrases per day.

Positive Actions

Was really good to start looking at focusing my Spanish learning the list will help me to avoid losing interest and learning words i'll rarely need to use.

I have another tip how to learn words.

When you are able to read text and come to a word you do not know, keep reading and do nothing else. After you read more text, there will be words you suddenly get meaning without looking it up in a dictionary (sometimes you will get the wrong meaning, but not often). Also, there will be words you do not get meaning but they start to annoy you. Now is the right time to look them up in a dictionary. This single look up will be sufficient to learn the word for the rest of your life.

Appreciate the tip Vilbara, I am finding I am retaining words much easier and more quickly as I progress my learning, I guess my mind is getting used to the look and sound of the words.

Day 16 Update

Bodybuilding

Stuck to diet and drank 3 litres of water

I attended my first Krav Maga lesson which gave me a pretty intense cardio workout! Really enjoyed the trial lesson and I’m looking to sign up to begin regular training.

Spanish

Listened to pimsleur for 30 mins, also continued work on the Spanish Document

Positive Actions

After 2 years considering, good to note I signed up and tried out Krav Maga, god knows why I waited so long, just another step in the right direction of personal improvement and trying new things.

Conclusion

I’m seeing positive habits forming and finding them easier to maintain because the KEY is that I am now experiencing / feeling the benefits, before I would sabotage myself before getting this far…gotta keep pushing.

Day 17 Update

Bodybuilding

Stuck to diet and drank 3 litres of water

No cardio in the morning as I woke up too late – no good, this was the first time I haven’t been when I should have.

Spanish

Listened to pimsleur for 30 mins, also continued work on the Spanish Document aswell as preparing for my next 30 day trial to learn 10 new words a day, I have made a spreadsheet that will have the 10 words to learn per day so that I do not become de-motivated by having to source random words.

Positive Actions

Nothing significant that hasn’t been mentioned

Ok so no excuses, I've been slipping between day 18 – 21 I’m not going to blame it on anything apart from my own lack of persistence, I did not eat/ train / or learn Spanish correctly over these 4 days, neither did I update my log.

So I had a choice, I could of let this die out before the 30 days or I could admit my mistakes, review what went wrong and continue on.

I’m going to choose the latter option, so what happened? Well my initial enthusiasm had definitely reduced by day 18, but why? What was I doing differently? Two major things were different.

Firstly I was not “fuelling the fire” I normally spend at least 15 mins a day reading positive and motivational things, such as on this site or elsewhere and I find that keeps my motivation “fuelled” as it were, I was NOT doing this during day 18-21 so like a car with no petrol I was losing power.

Secondly I failed to wake early and hit the gym, these things have been a MASSIVE help with my motivation and overall sense of well being, and they must be continued if I am to install a habit of consistent dedication and perseverance of my goals.

So onwards I go, today is day 22 and I will update tomorrow morning, so far I’ve woken early and hit the gym, also listened to 15 mins of Spanish so its back on track.

Hit the gym before work to bust the cardio session, good session.

6 good clean meals

Spanish

Only listened to about 20mins - didn't hit the 30min minimum

Positive actions

Ordered protein supplement / creatine and essential fatty oils so that I can build a proper diet that can be followed strictly, still working out the exact calorie intake / protein /carb/ fat ratios which is a real pain in the a** but I CANNOT progress unless I nail this

Day off but good clean meals eaten

Attended 2 hour Krav Maga lesson - 1 hour of exercise + 1 hour of weapon defense tactics

Spanish

Only listened to about 20mins - didn't hit the 30min minimum

Positive actions

Tackled a personal issue that needed resolving, dealt with swiftly rather than sitting on it for months

Woke up late missed cardio - not good

Moved evening session to friday day 25 as I have day off work
wasn't prepared with meals, had to improvise

Spanish

Only listened to about 20mins - Spanish is starting to tail off, not quite a habit yet, gotta get back to 30 mins per day to install the habit.

Well been a crazy 4 days (25 - 28) was my birthday weekend which started off well on day 26 as I was surprised with a driving day, got my hands on a Lamborghini Gallardo for a short while which was a great experience that I plan on re-introducing into my life of a more permenant basis in the future!

Had some good times, my daily routines were non existant, I took a little birthday break from my development!

Crazy few days really, started well but did end with the break up of my long term relationship...could have been better timed but hey I guess "its always the right time to do the right thing", it was a choice I made and stuck to and that is more evidence of progress in itself, I am lucky in that I do not feel remorseful and i'm actually excited about moving into the next phase of my life.

Day 29

Bodybuilding

Good back & bicep session, definitely feeling stronger and looking better

Spanish

Didn't do anything towards this on day 29, no excuses just procrastinating again, going to listen to pimsleur on the way to work today (day 30).

Positive Actions

I felt truly great all day, in a short space of time I have shown myself so many positive things and control that I feel MASSIVELY better about tackling the challenges I face in life, this happiness is manifesting outwards now and others are sensing it.

I gave my friend £100 yesterday out of the blue, he gave the same sum to me many years ago and I pretended I forgot..it was always "i'll pay it back when I get x amount of money etc..." well yesterday for no reason I remembered this and promptly gave it back, I felt great...it's all part of me learning I have to give value to receive it in life and I put my hand up and say I have been a taker in the past.

Overall i'm feeling fantastic and today is the last day of this log, but not the last day of my development by any means

End of log conclusion

Well the 30 days have now past and I will conclude this log today, I have found the experience positive and as I look back over the log I can see progression and it’s that written proof over an extended period that I set out to achieve.

There were ups and downs on this trial and certainly the initial momentum and dedication did grow weaker after the initial 14 days, so what do I learn from that?

The main point I learned was that I must “fuel the fire”, as I began the trial it was supplemented with positive reading / audio material and I was focusing thinking on my goals.

As time passed this behaviour tailed off, and therefore the daily tasks I needed to complete lost value in my mind, the driving force to completing them was weakened, as a consequence so was my resolve.

So, the journey continues…I can feel some specific challenging 30 day trials coming on!

Thanks to everyone who took the time to glance at my log / post a comment, it was that exposure that kept me coming back

Nice work!

The best part is you kept updating even when there were no comments for several days. I think thats the key. Some people would give up writing it down on here, if they didnt think anyone was looking.

Thats really motivating to see you what you did.
