There is a certain kind of intelligence which I'm getting more and more interesting in. It's the kind of natural, spontaneous intelligence or intuition that some people have in one or more areas. For instance, some people can - and have always could - catch a quick glimpse of something and then understand it all instantly - without excessive prior experience. You might know someone who can read another person correctly on a quick meeting. Or someone who can look at a mathematical problem and instantly know how to solve it. And then there is someone I know, who can look at a technical appliance or open an electrical cabinet (he is an electrical engineer / industrial electrician) and know directly, without having seen it before, which component does what... And this latter case is not something logical; it is analog to someone who can look at a bunch of unfamiliar people and simply tell what their names are (but perhaps not as extreme). I know that some of the above cases could be a natural result of lots of practice, but that is not that I'm seeking. What I am seeking, is the spontaneous innate knowledge and understanding some people have in some area, regardless of age and experience. And now I would like to explore this subject more. Is there any books on this mysterious intelligence? Has it got a name? Do you have any experience of it? I'm interested in everything you've got. Last edited by Decamber; 04-25-2009 at 08:36 AM. |

I think I know what you're talking about -- it's related to thin-slicing and photo-reading. You are opening up your awareness to a learning state, like opening up the aperture of a camera all the way, and allowing your unconscious mind to receive and accept a quantity of information that would astonish, overflow, and overwhelm the conscious mind. The unconscious mind can take this all in an instant, because it's not busy judging, evaluating, accepting and rejecting -- but it can integrate it. You're able then to access these resources without even knowing you're doing it -- you have achieved unconscious competence or even mastery. You can do it on purpose. |

| What I'm talking about is related to intuition, but intuition is the ordinary, normal opening up of the unconscious that everybody does in their daily life and sometimes they notice and sometimes they don't. What I'm talking about is much broader and deeper than ordinary intuition. I think some people have sort of a natural tendency to do it, a gift for it, what Decamber might think of when he's saying it's innate -- but anyone can deliberately tap into their ability.

By the way, if this "talent" really exists ( which I highly doubt, sorry ), then don't you think that you'd already knew if you were gifted? No offense, just curiousity, really. | |
