Thumbs up Becoming an expert

I found an entertaining blog post on becoming an expert at something. Of course everything boils down to hard work, dedication and practice. But it's always worth it!

That's an interesting post, and it's pretty much true. I remember Brian Tracy saying that if you read for one hour per day in your industry and keep on working in your industry, you'll be an expert in that field in five to ten years.

Ah....the Creating Passionate Users blog.

Great blog. I read many good things on there. It seem to be about how to please your users more and how to make yourself not sucks.

It is easy to develop expertise in something you are passionate about. It is finding the passion that takes time.

When it comes to expertise, I can recommend one book: Mastery: The Keys to Success and Long-Term Fulfillment

It's one of the very few books that completely changed my worldview on this subject. I found it extremely helpful.

Actually, someone formed a club called the Thousander Club based on my own blog post on the topic of becoming an expert. Basically, pick something you want to become an expert at, pick a metric such as number of hours practicing, and record it somewhere. The idea is that if you practice for about 3 hours a day for a year, you'll have over 1,000 hours, and after 5 or 10 years, that's a lot of hours of expertise!

Last year, I managed to get a little over 25% of the number of hours of game development time.

This is the second year of the Thousander Club, and even though it hasn't started great for me so far, I'm feeling optimistic.
