Default is anyone else here an obsessive perfectionist?

when i get fixated on something, i can't get it out of my mind.

in addition, i have to have everything surrounding me literally flawless - completely organized, categorized, laying parallel to each other.

i also have about 10 lists/journals in which i am constantly tracking different thoughts.

i dont know if this is necessarily a bad thing as i do think i am extremely efficient, but i find myself very depressed when i fail to do even one thing out of task.

anyone else like this?

You may want to read The Now Habit. It's technically about procrastination, but it talks about you.

I am the same - I don't always have everything in order, but I always intend to get everything in order
I also want (and trust) that one day, I will be perfect (at least, for the untrained eye ) I will be knowledgeable in all fields, be super healthy and fit, have a great IQ, a perfect memory, have great humor and public speaking skills, etc

Same here... well, in a way. I am not really that tidy, but I want to be a perfect human being in the way you described. The problem is, why bother ? I realized this wasn't because of me, it's to impress others.

I've been pretty depressive cause I couldn't be what I actually wanted to be, or achieve some of the stuff I wished for. But in the end, it comes down to impressing others (this is the case for me at least).

Even when you don't want to do it for others (and I don't realize which other reasons there could be), what's the point ? Your whole existence is meaningless... you could live an average happy life and not be perfect or near-perfect, in the end it would matter jack **** compared to being a near-perfect human being.

I blame the ego, if I got rid of it I wouldn't care about being perfect.

There you have it. I think it's better to live after a set of attitudes, habits and beliefs then trying to schedule and order everything. Because success requires flexibility. And perfection is an on-going process.

Well does that mean you can't live after a set of attitudes, habits and beliefs if you have an ego ?

Does trying to schedule and order everything mean you aren't flexible ? It actually might be flexible... don't think Im understanding you well.

Thing is though, I don't see the point in living without an ego. How would such life look like ? It would be pretty pointless :/

Of course you have an ego but you don't want to be driven by protection of that ego. You want to have enough self-esteem to try new things and fail, until you finally succeed. Without damaging the sense of who you are.

Schedules often interfere with flexibility, in my experience. You get a rigorous outlook on the world. A world which is sometimes irrational and flowing in multiple directions. A better way is therefore to know your tendencies: in which way am I heading? Should I keep heading that way or should I, if only for the moment, change direction?
