Default The Laziness Experiment - 4 Months of living like a Vegetable

I've become a minimalist in every sense of the word.

Since November of last year I have been a total doormat. I'm literally collecting dust I do so little.

Basically I wanted to see what would happen and how I would feel if I eliminated all accountability systems, goals, future aspirations, past reminices, petty aquaintances, big outings, anything 'admirable' at all - just so I could live completely in the moment and for the moment exactly how it is.

I have zero self-discipline at the moment. I literally won't listen to myself if I boss myself around. I've eliminated anything that might require me to discipline myself (going to the gym, alarm clocks, shopping, studying). I either work on impulse, or put myself in a situation where I can't misbehave (ie. signing up and paying for classes, sleeping downstairs when I have to wake up early).

(note: At the snap of a finger I can switch into 'discipline-mode', but I haven't put obligations on myself to be that way at the moment - > no goals)

The curious thing is I don't know how I feel about it.

I have had days where I sleep for 14-15 hours, wake up, eat, repeat. Do nothing, feel nothing. I'm 3 steps from being in a coma.

And I've had days where I've been so happy and in complete ecstasy for no apparent reason at all. These moments almost have me convinced that I'm in a state of enlightenment. I'm completely zen. I feel at peace with everything.
I often feel like i've 'woken up'.

What do I make of this? Is life better lived this way? It's basically the idea of living like a 'caveman' (raw foods, no job, no science, no math, little technology, no schedules, no commitments, instinct and impulse, no utensils...)

Another reason why I let everything slide like this is because - as often said - you never know how much you needed something until it's gone.

So I'm also testing how badly I need things like exersize/cooked food/friends/employment/goals in my life, and honestly after 4 months of this 'productivity-fasting'/deliberate-laziness -> what I really need has become so alarmingly clear to me.

Everyone should try this!

You just need that balance between lazy and productive. I've always been an advocate of productive laziness. The laziness makes so much less stressful and fulfilling; however, you still accomplish things. You just need a very laid back attitude towards life, yet laid back in such a way that you don't do nothing.

My guess would be people. I think that we CAN live with very little and still be very happy, as long as we have friends and or family to love.

Are you willing to share what it is you've discovered??

I feel like that when I do nothing. I just relax, don't think, and soak in whatever surrounds me (even if there are nothing but walls and a ticking clock). I'm often in a state of bliss and contentment, and I feel enlightened. I'd say I agree with zoner7; a balance is needed. Productive laziness is where I am right now these days, though I'm not sure if it's for everyone. I'll be going out for a walk now.

You're acting like Ron Livingston in Office Space. "I did nothing and it was everything I thought it could be."

I love counter-development experiments; their lessons are always so much more poignant than those yielded by improvement attempts.
