Default Exercising reduces sleeping time?

Steve wrote that exercising 30 min a day reduce sleep need? Can anyone confirm this by their experience?

if you exercise before you sleep you definitely will not be able to fall asleep unless you're exhausted.

it's not a healthy practice because we need to have a certain amount of sleep.

this is not in the right forum section. the one's with the more knowledge with this topic is on the physical exercises section.

I can confirm from personal experience. The healthier and fitter your body is, the less sleep you need. At optimum health, you find you only need 5/6 hours sleep, any more is a luxury.

Thank you. Will aim for 5-6 hours and preach against the common "you need 8 hours of sleep" nonsense.

Here's the exact quote from Steve:

Quote:
When I’m exercising aerobically every day for at least 20 minutes, I can shave a good hour off my sleep each night, which more than compensates for the exercise time. I wake up feeling more alert and energetic too. But the best part is that I enjoy better concentration and alertness all day long. It works way better than caffeine… and without the crash.

Default My View on That

That is pretty good topic. A lot of gurus preaching that 7-8 hours is a must.

From my personal experience it is not true at all.

I use to sleep 4.5 hour a day for more then 6 months (not inducing Sundays and sometimes Saturdays). Man it was tough, but with time I get use to it and it became a habit. The problem with that approach was that my lifestyle at that time wasn't good enough for me to sustain this kind of regime without feeling tired at the end of the week and lack of energy during days as well. I am pretty healthy guy in general, but nevertheless it was tough.

Also I try not to eat after 7 PM, which is a good advice (your body's biological hours is not fitted to digest food after 7-8 pm), open window for fresh air before go to sleep, sleep on hard mattress + couple of other tweaks. In this case I notice that 6 hours of sleep was good enough for me.
Aslo do not forget the level of metabolism. My is fast as hell. If yours is slower, then you might need a little more sleep. That's my guess, not a statement.

The point is that it all depends on multiple factors but it is definitely not set to stone.

I've read that if you get to rest on needless (if you adventures enough ) for 15-20 minutes or so, it can replenish your energy more then 7-8 hours of sleep.

I btw exercising 3 times a week before sleep pretty much (2 hours before). I know that it is not advisable, but that is the best time for me right now. I agree that it was sometimes hard to fell asleep , but I use to it now, so I can fell asleep easily now without a problem.

Do you have any "before sleep" ritual? Share please

another option is to segregate sleep in your waking moments. when i used to work for the government we had loads of overwork time especially at special occasions. it became a habit of mine to sleep 30-40 minutes at distributed break times that if you add the total amount of time it'll round off to 7-10 hours.

i don't know if it's healthy but it got the job done.

but as brutha posted, the body must be well rested.

according to my religious buddies they tell me that, one must sleep 8 hours work for 8 hours and worship the lord of 8 hours. = 24 hours. i don't know if this'll help but, it never worked for me, but it may work for you.

Lupe, yes what I meant is hard surface. I use to sleep on just hard wooden board, but it was too hard for me, so I switched to expensive hard mattress (don't have to be expensive, but make sure that is natural and don't have any crap inside the mattress that can have a bad influence on your breathing).

Common sense and little knowledge should prevail
