Question How to get Good Grades

Does anyone have experience with getting good grades in high school and can offer advice? Or recommend any books?

Improving grades is an obvious area to apply personal growth to, but I can't find much specific information on it. The information I can find just talks about time management and productivity but thats not my problem at all my problem is more about discipline.

SQR3: Method for Study

try this. ^^ it's a good method to study. and also mind mapping. :3.

the trick in studying is to correlate the topics

and you can either memorize it by rote or mnemonics.

for mnemonics How to build a memory palace - SuperStruct Instructables Series

that's the easiest way i've learned how to memorize.

Definitely look into memory techniques. Visualization is awesome to begin with anyway.

And also important is that you have some good motivation to do the work, some reward after you finish everything or something to look forward to.

Energy levels are important for motivation, obviously, so you can try eating more fruit etc.

Works for me lol.

Mind maps. The best method to use imo. The more you mind map, the better you get at it. That will only mean you can cover more topic in less time. It allows me to see the big picture easily.

I skimmed through the SQR3, it looks good. At least the principles are good, survey , question, read ,recite and review.

try our tips and tell us if it helped you or something that you tried which we ourselves didn't suggest. we'd like to keep track of your improvement if that's ok.

Pavlina's written two articles on this: Do It Now (I think) and 10 Tips for College Students.

The best resource for this online I've found to be Study Hacks: Study Hacks

His book is a must read: How to Become a Straight-A student. This book is absolutely fantastic, the best study guide I've ever read (and I've read a few). Why is this book great? Cause it doesn't just focus on getting the job done, it focuses on getting the job done in the most efficient and effective way possible. It seeks to conserve time, attention and energy spent on getting As to th least necessary. He hates the Grind, which most other study guides recommend. In fact, he suggests you don't do all of your readings!

Why should you believe me? I failed a year and got back with Bs and As with minimal work outside class.

The times when my grades were highest were the times when I was stimulated, happy and ready to take on the world. If you're not motivated in general then your work will suffer for it. A good idea is to read a lot in your spare time. Reading gives a boost to your brain-power, which improves virtually all other aspects of your life.

I totally agree with you. Lack of motivation, especially self motivation, is the fastest way to fail in school.

Cheers,

I suppose they do share similar premises in some ways. Start by getting a copy of his book, if possible. He really extends a lot of his ideas in the book on this site, among other things.
