Downsizing to the bare minimum and pairing with a 'preceding action' I tried a 30 day 'run for 30 mins' trial. Failed. Tried a 'exersize for 10 mins anywhere' trail. bumped. THEN I read a bit on Leo's blog (ZenHabits) about making the goal super easy, and pairing it with something you always do before hand. For instance I drink a glass of water with lemon in it. Plus, you set a time and stick with it Heres what I did: My 'habit' is putting on my jacket and tieing up my shoes. My preceding action is drinking a glass of lemon water right before Time is either 1st thing in the AM, or 10PM. I don't have to do anything except drink the water, and tie up my laces. But I feel so guilty untying them at that point and giving them up that i'm literally just propelled to go running, and I usually end up out there for 20-50mins. And I daresay I'm actually addicted to it! I did the lemon-water-coat-shoes thing twice today. |
