I went to a party last night and got drunk. I had a good time, but am now a bit hungover. I don't feel too bad, but my concentration is pretty shot, and my motivation to do anything useful is pretty low. Usually, I pretty much waste the whole day after I've been drinking, which is usually at least one day a week. I get plenty of stuff done during the rest of the week, so this doesn't actually present a major problem, but I would like to get some value out of these days. I know I'm not going to be as productive on those days as I would normally, but does anyone have any ideas for useful things I can do that don't require much concentration or motivation? thanks, Chica |

To an extent. I'm still able to make progress towards my personal development goals, support myself, contribute to my community, build and maintain loving relationships with friends and family, maintain a reasonable (and improving) level of health and fitness, and spend the majority of my time at least moderately happy. Would I be able to do at least some of these things better if I reduced my alcohol consuption? Almost certainly (especially the health and fitness thing), but as I'm still able to lead a life I love, it's not a high priority for me right now | |

Be careful not to fill 100% of your time with intense productivity. When I lack concentration, I usually try to stay clear of anything where I really care about the result. At the same time, I try to increase my concentration, perhaps by taking a walk outside or even a cold shower. I don't think coffee is particularly harmful to most people, but I personally avoid it (and all other types of stimulating substances, including sugar). Some good acitivities for when you lack concentration have already been mentioned. Podcasts are a good idea. In general just try to set realistic goals for what you can achieve on a day like this. |
