Default my first 30 day challenge - learning Spanish

Hi everyone,

Today I've started my first 30 day challenge. I bought a book with exercises for beginners to learn Spanish and I'm planning to do one lesson a day (there are about 80 lessons in the book). I've completed lesson one today and it took me about 25 minutes, but as I plan to revise previous lessons every now and then I think it will take me around one hour a day.

I will have trouble staying motivated, because I'm a very impulsive person (it was also today I decided to start learning a new language). To avoid this I'll try to keep myself interested by trying to translate Spanish lyrics. I like salsa and it would be great to be able to understand the lyrics.

Hi Marije,

I hope you success

I'm from Spain and we could talk some minutes a day, if you want.

Where are you from?

Hi Foo,

I'm from Holland. It would definitely help if I could talk to you in Spanish sometimes! I'll send you a pm with my msn so you can add me. Thanks a lot!

Day #02.

Completed lessons two and three. I don't feel like the method I'm using is teaching the language efficiently. I'll look for additional online resources as well as some Spanish lyrics to translate tomorrow.

Try Michel Thomas! His Italian course is amazing. His Spain course will be of similar quality.

Spanish is my language and I think it is very nice that you are studying it! And translating lyrics is a good excercise. I used to do that at shcool ( I mean, from English to Spanish). If you can, go to Spain and get immersed in the culture, the language, etc. Good Luck!

About translating lyrics... I just found pandora.com and have been using it to find Spanish songs then look up the lyrics online and use google to translate them for about 4 hours tonight. Google has a beautiful translator that puts the Spanish and English side by side for easy comparison. Fascinating.

Right now I have my station seeded with the groups "Jaguares" and "Moenia". Really I liked the music coming out of the station seeded with "La Cucaracha" a bit better... but apparently the music wasn't popular enough to have online lyrics. I like music with an acoustic folksy sound, an upbeat tempo, and a positive message in a major key with mellow vocals. Anyone got music recommendations for me?
