I'm interested in NLP. I hear so much about it everywhere. I'm very curious about your new coaching, looking forward to seeing how it will evolve. It's so fascinating to see you build your skills and acquire new tools, Angela. Quote:

Angela, How are you intending to use NLP? To me, NLP seems to be a very manipulative technique, where you manipulate other people. Yeah, it can be used on yourself, and I've done a little bit of that. But it seems predominately to be something you use that is very manipulative of other people. |

A lot of the 'suggestion' that you get in a McKenna hypnosis meditation comes back to "absorbing the right amount of suggestion that is perfect for you and will benefit you most, right now." It's not like he's planting a suggestion for you to send him cash. He might have planted a sex bomb in my brain, though. Quote:
And my intentions for it are more like "influence" for myself and for others. My intentions for using NLP are for win/win. If I ever find myself using NLP or any other tool for my personal benefit at the expense of others (win/lose) then I'll know I'm not living my purpose. In my coaching, a win for the other person might be being able to let go of a limiting belief, overcoming a phobia, being free from habitual negative thought, or generating joy, power and abundance. For me, the win would be both the great feeling I'd get from influencing and facilitating those wins, and also getting paid for it. In other areas of my life, a win for the other person might be easing the process for Danger Man of letting go of alcohol, or for helping my girlfriend build a fit, vital, fat-free body, or assisting my teammates with generating power and confidence on the tennis or volleyball court, or to help someone be more effective in their communication or thinking. A lot of people trust me already, so they're eager to allow me to "influence" them, so of course I wouldn't consider my practices to be at their expense. For me, the win is, again, the wonderful feeling of making a difference, and the extra-added bonus of getting to enjoy more power, effectiveness, joy, abundance, vitality, and fun in my relationships with those people. I would love for my relationship with Danger Man to be free of alcohol, and I would love for my tennis and volleyball partners to get more and more powerful and effective because then I get to have funner games. Etc., etc. I've already been "using" NLP techniques in my coaching and in my life as they've seeped into my toolbelt intuitively or little techniques I've noticed here and there, like in the hypnosis meditations. Now I'm looking forward to deliberately and consciously applying them, with specific intent. Does that answer your question?

*grin* Thanks And thanks for the lead on McKenna... I will have to check him out. Did he do a TV series too based on "I can make you think"? I have this weird half-memory of seeing something very late at night, when I was half-asleep, that seemed to be using NLP techniques to help people with diet issues... Being very late night and half asleep, I don't remember most of it - but the picture of the chocolate cake with worms in it - EWWW! THAT made an impression, and really did keep me away from chocolate for a bit $20k for the conference *YIKES*. I have trouble imagining that I'd get enough from any conference for it to be worth THAT much, but who knows, I guess anything is possible Really cool stuff, none-the-less!

By the way, I like your title better: "I can make you think." ! I've used that worms and vomit technique to break my compulsions -- I learned it when I was teenager from the famous hypnotherapist Frank Genco. It works, at least temporarily! He also uses EFT, which I know has helped a lot of people around here.
