Many years ago I did the Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics course. I was a really slow reader, even though I learnt to read at home by age three and could read far better than my peers in early school; at school we were drilled to read aloud and with expression, even after it was obviously no longer needed. My need to 'hear' the words correctly is very strong. Reading Dynamics, definitely works and the face to face coaching was really helpful. However, it did not last for me. I remember it never really felt easy and was hard work; eventually I stopped practicing and my reading returned right back to where I started. I more recently bought the PhotoReading course but never really got into it properly. In both cases, I found them difficult to use for all my reading and that is what I think I need in order to get the practice in. But when I try that, a) it's exhausting and b) I'm not confident about my retention, comprehension, etc. The nearest thing to it I do now is while in a hurry and searching the web for something. But that's in very small bursts, and I think everyone has learnt to do that. I have a few questions... Do fast readers, read everything very quickly? What about a book of jokes; can that really be read quickly? What about say a computer programming book? I notice that some hint that they read differently when it is for pleasure... different how? When learning to speed-read and or photo-read, must I completely stop reading slowly.... forever? Last edited by vlc; 03-28-2011 at 11:50 PM. |
