One thing I've noticed during periods of my life when I'm setting and working towards specific goals is that I become much less capable of dealing with the unexpected. In this case I'm referring to *negative* unexpected events. I guess this makes sense. If you never plan or focus on anything why would you be disturbed when the unexpected knocks you off track? Unfortunately, I've found that I tend to react in one of two ways: 1) Curse laden, anger driven, tirades. Not prolonged. Short and sweet (I mean sour) :-) 2) Shocked disbelief. Followed by a brief period of social awkwardness. On rare occasions I play it cool, but this usually happens because I didn't *really* see the issue as being a big deal to begin with. I don't consider that skill, I consider it luck. Any tips on handling the unexpected? Continually having to apologize after my emotional outbursts is tiresome. ;-) -Thx |
